By popular demand, the band return to London on August 30th at a secret location in Dalston, following a recent show at the iconic Shepherd's Bush Empire. Tickets are already on sale! Encroaching on almost a decade, the last creations by Land of Talk were 7 years ago, with Cloaks and Cipher being released at the end of the noughties. It was never supposed to be this long for a comeback, but as leading lady Elizabeth Powell will tell you, "Sometimes life gets in the way." In this case though, it has only led to extending and adding to the formation of this magnetic and mesmeric album, Life After Youth. Still striking in its most innocent areas, Powell's eloquent yet powerful vocals are what hit home the hardest. Stripped to the silky, solemn sound of her own self, her vocals at times leave you breathless and clearly need no backing. With obvious licks of conventional pop influence, it could be easy to pigeon hole Land Of Talks newest release as a sell-out pop album. Yet this is not the case. Each track is dragged back down to earth, whether it be with electronic inputs or classic indie riffs. Booming drums break into 'What Was I Thinking', disrupting the lo-fi nostalgia, as well as the swirling synths that swallow 'Spiritual Intimidation'. This ten track masterpiece is simple sweet, summery and put simply an indie rock album worth its salt. TRACK OF THE MONTH: JOE INNES & THE CAVALCADE Joe Innes & The Cavalcade share their political single with a mellow twist! The band's first single 'Little Rabbit' taken from their yet to be released album, Foreign Domestic Policy has an irresistible upbeat, summer feel with its brass chorus, skipping beat and laidback lo-fi vocals. Overriding the tune is an interesting injection of trumpets, uplifting the darker lyrics of political turmoil and satire. The accompanying video to 'Little Rabbit' is also stocked full of soundbites and short- lived clips of our infamous politicians. The strong and stable, or as it seems to Joe, weak and wobbly atmosphere the country finds itself in this past year, has coloured the outlook of this album. Joe stressed this point, noting "It's how I feel about where I am as a person, as a husband, and as a citizen of the UK in 2017."
