No one knows for sure how state-by-state legal- ization will impact beer, wine and spirit sales, how it will impact public health, and who will regulate its production, distribution, sale and use. And there's the question of how the federal gov- ernment will react under President Trump and Attorney General Sessions. For all those questions, there are still few an- swers. However, what's becoming clear is that state liquor agencies have been, and likely will be, expected to oversee cannabis regulation as it's legalized in each state. Control state agencies have watched Ore- gon closely as its Liquor Control Commission absorbed cannabis oversight into its mission. There are a handful of other control state agencies likely facing similar chal- lenges in the coming year or two. StateWays will continue to cover developments in the legalized marijuana indus- try, especially as it pertains to control states. But our parent company also recently launched a weekly email newsletter called Cannabis Regulator, which covers the topic in much more detail. From state-by-state analysis of laws and regulations to news about research and sales data, Cannabis Regulator is creating a community of experts and people who need to learn about the industry. Visit CannabisRegulator.com to sign up for the newsletter, which is free for control state offi cials. • JEREMY NEDELKA, EDITOR CONTROL STATE BEST PRACTICES AWARDS Thank you to all the agencies that entered the 2017 awards program. Winners will be announced soon, and featured in the September/October issue of StateWays.
