Residents of Dallas and Waco, Texas; and Atlanta. — Jennifer Robertson Norris So how big of a deal is 5G? Considering the fact that this latest in wireless network technology works at a speed 10 times faster than the current 4G network, it's considered an industry-changer. In consumer terms it means it will now take 30 seconds to download a movie to play instead of the six minutes it takes today. Most mobile devices and smartphones don't support 5G, but that will begin to change in early 2019 as all manufacturers look to add more capable devices to the market place. But remember that 5G impacts more than your phone usage. Think autonomous driving, connected vehicles and ultra-real HD video.
