Those close to Purdue athletics also were reeling from the passing of Tom Reiter at the age of 61 after a bout with cancer. As an administrator and former assistant basketball coach, Reiter was the ultimate behind-the- scenes person. Yet his legacy is one of laughter and in- telligence all mixed in with a healthy dose of irreverence. He left all of us who knew him wanting more; wanting to be able to spend more time with him. Yet, he also left us with a boilerplate, if you will, of how we should all act, how we should treat one another. Not tak- ing yourself too seriously was a way of life for Reiter, and for those of us who are left behind, it is a difficult act to follow. RIP Tom Reiter and peace to your family. j Alan Karpick is the publisher of Gold and Black Illustrated.
