7 45 Issue 62 / 2014 FESTIVALS guestlist.net 3. FREEROTATION – BASKERVILLE HALL HOTEL – UK When: July 11th - 13th Where: Baskerville Hall, Wales, UK Individual Quality: Incredible Techno with a Sherlock Holmes vibe. Freerotation is something quite special. Essentially a three-day house party in this legendary estate, the festival provides some of the best Techno to grace the UK throughout the whole year. The supposed- ly haunted and literarily significant Basker- ville Hall Hotel makes the perfect setting for this 'heads only' arrangement. The only downside to this magical meeting place is the door policy. It's strictly members only and even then, the capacity is only adequate for a small portion of them. This being said, after the nail biting process of obtaining a ticket, the weekend is said to be truly unbelievable. 2. EXIT When: July 10th – 13th Where: Petrovaradin Fortress, Novi Sad, Serbia Individual Quality: Formed by a valiant social movement and keeps to a strong developmental mission in the area. Since its beginning in 2000 as a student protest against the government, Exit festi- val has risen to worldwide acclaim and for very good reason. Officially voted as the 'Best Major European Festival' for 2013, this Serbian celebration has brought new context to the festival form over the years. The Petrovaradin Fortress has a unique and extensive history, standing tall as a human settlement of strength for over 15,000 years and possessing a huge net- work of underground tunnels that make for an awe-inspiring experience. With acts including Damon Albarn, Carl Cox vs Dan- ny Tenaglia, Disclosure (Live), Ben Klock vs Marcel Dettmann and Dusky vs Paul Wool- ford, this eclectic festival is set to be yet another unforgettable week. When: August 2nd Where: Hatfield House, Hertfordshire, UK Individual quality: Pillow fights and Daniel Avery Moving from its previous location at Kneb- worth Park, Eastern Electrics festival lands at Hatfield House for an event that has a great dose of diversity and individuality. Hatfield house, built in 1611 by the first earl of Salisbury, has seen its fair share of cultural changes since then. With the original pal- ace building once existing as the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I, the grounds will certainly witness a change of scenery with the arrival of 10,000 beat-hungry festival goers. This year plays host to an admirable list of fresh and well-chosen acts including the likes of Daniel Avery, Boddika, Art Depart- ment, Ellen Allien and Kerri Chandler. With paint fights, pillow fights and a whole array of one-day messiness, Eastern Electrics is shaping up to be real highpoint of British summertime festivals. 4. ELECTRIC CASTLE When: June 19th - 22nd Where: Bantyy's Castle, Transylvania, Romania Individual quality: It's actually IN Transylvania Taking over the largest castle in Transylva- nia, this intriguing and exciting festival has caused quite a stir since its birth last year. The minds at Boiler Events have brought their vision to life with a reinvigoration of a structure that was desecrated during WWII and neglected by the following Ro- manian communist regime. Now largely restored and electrified due to help from the festival and The Transylvanian Trust, the castle opens its doors to over 32,000 people and 100 artists playing over five stages. The four day journey creates an atmosphere that has become world re- nowned after its first year in motion. The festival welcomes artists such as Thievery Corporation, Die Antwood, Sasha, Bonobo and Mungo's Hifi and at €55 for a four day pass, it's one that everyone with a taste for the new and unusual should be heading to. Just remember to watch out for the vam- pires. 5. EASTERN ELECTRICS
