ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 25, ISSUE 3 95 f down to 157 after wrestling at 165 pounds and 174 pounds the previous two seasons. At 5-foot-4, six inches shorter than his older brothers, Luke possesses a smaller stature, similar to his parents, and has seen most of his action at 125 pounds. "Chad and Doug have similar styles," Ersland said. "They scramble a little bit more. Luke seems to be a bit more of a base-line wrestler with more base positions than scrambling. They're very similar in their work hab- its and training." Doug said the size difference between the brothers leads to different styles on the mat. "Luke has little-man syndrome; he's tough and wres- tles hard-nosed," Doug said. "He's really quick and ex- plosive. Chad is extremely strong — he wrestles up two weight classes from me and we're identical twins." Off the mat, teammate Alex Griffin said the brothers are very similar and very dif- ferent at the same time. "They all have their own little quirks, but they all have the same general personality type," Griffin said. "It's hys- terical. They're funny and they're great guys." Chad and Doug possess similar personalities after spending nearly every day of their lives together. "I know what (Doug) is thinking and he knows what I'm going to do before I do it," Chad said. Luke sees a little bit of both of them in himself. "I'm more like Doug in school because we both chal- lenge each other," Luke said. "I'm a little like Chad in per- sonality because I'm goofy sometimes. We're all our own person and have our own per- sonalities. We're really our own people." All three brothers were in the lineup together for the first time since high school on Nov. 29 against Missou- ri and Old Dominion, composing 30 percent of Purdue's starters. "I've had a lot of brothers on the same team — wres- tling can kind of be a family affair — but three is unique for even me," said Ersland, who is in his first season as Purdue's head coach after being an assistant the previous eight years at Nebraska. Each will say they're the best wrestler in the family without hesitation. It may take one last living room battle to determine the winner. "We'll let them settle that one over Christmas," Er- sland said. j The iPad app is available at the App Store. Search "Gold and Black" for an easy download.
