April Wilson 25
G • 5-7 • Jr.
Wilson's
been a good
distributor
at the point,
handing out 47
assists in her
first 10 games
after serving a
suspension to
start the season, while keeping
the turnovers to just more than
2.5 per outing. But after spend-
ing a lot of hours on her shot
during the offseason, it's not
where it could be. In mid-De-
cember, she was shooting
only 38 percent with only five
three-pointers. Yet, she was
averaging nearly 11 points per
game, in part due to getting to
the line often, a team-high 40
times.
Ashley Morrissette 1
G • 5-9 • So.
Purdue's need-
ed Morrissette
to come in and
be a scorer
right away this
season, as the
Boilermakers
look to replace
the scoring
output they lost after last year.
The underclassman has been
OK, although inconsistent,
averaging more than 10 points
per game but shooting only 35
percent. And she made only
16 of her first 54 three-point
attempts, slightly less than
30 percent. The Boilermakers
need her to develop more
consistency, because until she
does, defenses are going to
continue to pack in the paint
and let Purdue chuck from the
perimeter.
Bridget Perry 13
F • 6-2 • So.
Perry was
starting to
come on by
the middle
of December,
seeing her
rebounding
numbers
in partic-
ular begin to inch up. The
Boilermakers, who had seen
their work on the glass be
a detriment in early-season
losses, need more produc-
tion from Perry and others
there. In back-to-back games
before finals, she averaged
six rebounds, to go along with
14 points. That's the kind of
impact the 6-foot-2 wing can
have, if only she consistently
plays aggressive.
Liza Clemons 23
F • 6-2 • Sr.
Clemons'
offensive out-
put is reduced
this season,
likely because
she's seeing
more defensive
focus after she
could be a sec-
ondary scorer on a team with
more options a year ago. The
forward, as of mid-December,
was shooting only 46 percent
from the field, not as high as
desired considering she plays
close to the basket. But it's
defense and rebounding where
Clemons can have the biggest
impact, and she's been able to
better contribute there.
Whitney Bays 32
F • 6-2 • Sr. (5)
Through the
first 11 games
of the season,
Bays averaged
a double-dou-
ble, with
team-highs of
13.6 points and
10.5 rebounds,
and did so despite battling
through an ailing back. Against
Florida State, she was knocked
out at the end of regulation
when it tightened up, then she
was a surprise contributor a
few days later vs. Dayton. The
scoring total isn't as high as
expected — Bays is shooting
only 38 percent, although she
has twice as many attempts as
all but one other Boilermaker
— because defenses have col-
lapsed on her while forcing the
ball to others.
Hayden Hamby 10
G • 5-7 • Jr.
Hamby started four of
the first 11 games for
Purdue, missing one
entirely, vs. Kansas,
due to suffering a
concussion in prac-
tice a couple days
earlier. She's capable
of hitting some big
shots, and was averaging 5.4 points
per game in mid-December. But she,
like the rest of her teammates, needs
to be more efficient from the field,
where she's hitting just 37 percent
of her field goals, and 33 percent of
three-pointers.
Bree Horrocks 22
C • 6-5 • Fr.
Horrocks has been
effective in the right
matchups for the
Boilermakers, like
when the opponent
has another big cen-
ter. She was against
Florida State, scoring
eight points in the
first half. That's helped her confi-
dence, which she admitted had waned
a bit due to nerves in the early por-
tion of the schedule. Given her size,
Horrocks needs to rebound better, as
she collected only 10 in the first 11
games of her career.
Andreona Keys 24
5-10 • G • Fr.
Keys has played
beyond her years,
averaging 6.4 points
in only 18 minutes
per game off the
bench. She had
big outings, like
double-digit scoring
outputs vs. Ball
State, Toledo and Wright State, to
help the Boilermakers to early-season
victories. She was the least known
of Purdue's recruiting class, likely
because of an ACL injury as a junior
in high school, but she's had the big-
gest impact early.
Torrie Thornton 4
F • 6-0 • Jr.
Thornton has value
for the Boilermakers
due to her versatility,
playing backup min-
utes in the post with
the ability to slide out
on the wing against
bigger opponents.
She averaged about
two-and-a-half rebounds per game, in
14 minutes, although there are times
she could probably be more efficient.
She averaged about the same in
points, too, but doesn't need to score
to have value.
