very happy with the results. I think we would have
seen that as, 'Wow.' But we didn't. Why? Was it prepa-
ration. Was it injuries? I don't know. But that's one of
the things as I sit down with Darrell and his staff, I'm
going to say, 'What do we have to do? What caused one
side to play at a particularly high level and one side
to come up short?' Maybe the other team had a little
something to do with it. It's not just on us."
Q: Has there been talk of moving the Bucket
game?
Burke: "Yeah, there has been. Mitch and I have
talked about it a couple times. I asked (IU athletic di-
rector) Fred Glass this year, I said, 'You have two in a
row, you want to move this one to Lucas?' He kind of
smiled at me. That's about where it ended. I probably
would have done the same thing. There's a piece of
me that hates to give up the tradition on campus but
there's also a piece of me that recognizes that Satur-
day after Thanksgiving, you don't have students here
and it's hard to recuperate. In Indianapolis, you have
recuperative power.
"The other question is should you play the Bucket
game the last week of the year? Do you move it in the
middle of the season? I think those are both fair ques-
tions to ask. If we're going to make this investment in
the south end zone, you really don't want to lose one of
those home game opportunities. Occasionally that may
happen, but I don't think you want to do it on a regu-
lar basis. I'd be more inclined to say move the Bucket
game to a week when you know the students are going
to be there. I know there's a rivalry week and when it
was the Saturday before Thanksgiving, it was fine. But
it's not now, and I worry you'll diminish the tradition if
the students year after year after year aren't there un-
less it's a big game. So we might be well-advised to tell
the Big Ten, 'Hey, slot us in somewhere else.' They'd
love it. It'd create a better TV experience, you're not
competing against the other rivalry games at the end
of the season. That's probably where I'd lean right now
as opposed to going to Indianapolis. But Mitch and I
will continue to talk about it."
