7 11 Issue 71 / 2015 FASHION guestlist.net Fashion Front-row intruders There are a number of flamboyant characters that strive to outshine the catwalks, but wearing a mushroom on your head simply takes the biscuit and is NOT a statement. This month is a special month for men's fashion, with the London Collections: MEN catwalk previews exhibiting all over the city. The fashion industry was never one to shy away from eccentricity and is constantly striving to push and break boundaries, but one must remain loyal to certain principles. It is no secret, that at renowned events such as London Collections and Fashion Weeks, the guests sitting watching the catwalks strive to stand out just as much as the designers they are there to celebrate. There is no dress code for the exhibitions, but I believe there are two categories into which you may choose to fall. The first is that of chic style, dressing in the latest, tailored apparel, effortlessly turning heads with your carefully composed outfit. In my opinion, out of respect to the collections, one should dress like so, sophisticated and humble. The second, and perhaps more entertaining, is the category that serves to shock and turns the idea of 'fashion' inside-out. LCM is no exception to this. The front row at Superdry boasted some recognizable fashion- loving faces, including Nick Grimshaw, Samuel L. Jackson and Luke Evans. With regard to the character sitting next to the Radio 1 DJ however, I do not even know where to begin… Is he even watching the show? "Frost yourselves" Every woman, and indeed man, holds key items of clothing in black that will save and frame any outfit. Is the complimentary white setting itself up to swoop in as a contender? Will the LWD be the new LBD? The fashion world is forever making predictions on the next must-have colour pallets. According to a recent article in the FT, we are slowly moving into the light – literally. White is looking to be the non-colour of the decade. For any working man or woman, a crisp, white, shirt is a wardrobe essential. Pair that with anything from ripped jeans to tailored cigarette chinos and your outfit is instantly lifted. However, we are now also seeing it a lot more in the realms of accessories and statement pieces. We no longer frown upon white jackets and trousers being worn in the winter months (although it is still pretty risky). This year's Golden Globe red carpet provided us with more white inspiration in glamorous gowns, without falling into the bridal category. The top spot must be awarded to Kate Hudson and her stunning, sleek, mermaid- like silhouette of Versace. What better way to aesthetically lift us out of the grey winter than with a little, "frosting", as Ben Berry (Matthew McConaughey) once said in the classic How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003). We may not have seen any white stuff on the ground this winter, but the fashion forecast is certainly predicting a lot of it on our mannequins in the coming seasons. More at: Guestlist.net
