Crisp sandwiCh anyone?
The latest niche cafe has hit Belfast and it's bringing back
crisp sandwiches.
When we say Chip Butty we can sense
your smile as you longingly
think of your childhood days, before
responsibilities and Monday morning
rush hour.
Andrew McMenamin has set out to
capture that nostalgia by
opening Simply Crispy in Belfast, a café
with only one thing on the menu, an
array of crisp sandwiches.
The initial idea was a satirical article, by
Ulster Fry, part-mocking The Cereal
Killer Café which recently opened in
London. The article went viral and
McMenamin contacted Ulster Fry with
intentions of turning the idea into
reality with a pop up shop.
Simply Crispy has taken off since opening
and selling out within two hours
on Monday 13th January. It attracted a
crowd as mixed as it's crisp flavours
ranging from teenagers to businessmen
and women. A meal boasts crisp
sandwich with choice of bread, soup and
fries all for the bargain price of
£3.50.
The success of both Cereal Café and
Simply Crispy clearly demonstrates the
power of social media in determining a
market and no cost publicity.
Niche café's seem to be the way to go
and we will undoubtedly be seeing
more before the year is out. e a
cornerstone of the Peckham community.
