GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 20 • 4 Weekly Pic Tom Campbell Purdue helds its annual "Pink Zone" game to benefit cancer research against Penn State. It was the eighth consecutive year of the event. The Boilermakers dropped to 5-3 in games played at home in pink uniforms after losing to Penn State. ELITE COMPANY Through 11 games, A.J. Hammons is tops in the Big Ten in field goal percentage for conference games only. Here are the other Boilermakers who have paced the league dating back to 1947. 2015 A.J. THE NUMBERS Gold and Black Illustrated at 25 As we celebrate our 25th year of publish- ing Gold and Black Illustrated, we look back at the memorable covers while reflecting what was going on at the time. Brian Cardinal was always a good cover image, a position he found himself in several times during his Boilermaker play- ing days from 1997-2000. But this, the Feb. 20, 1998 issue, was his first. And it was fitting that this image was taken the week of Purdue wins over Indiana and Illinois, two teams that Cardinal seemed to get the best of during his Boilermaker tenure. Much like the 2015 season, the '98 squad had to bounce back from slow starts, as the Boilermakers rallied from double- digit deficits to both the Hoosiers and Illini. The 1998 Boilermakers, with seniors Chad Austin and Brad Miller, were one of Coach Gene Keady's best teams as they made it to the Sweet 16. But a left ankle injury suf- fered by Jaraan Cornell in the first half of the win over IU not only put a damper on the rest of the year for the sophomore guard who was having a magnificent season, but caused Cornell to never quite have the same ex- plosive first step again in his Boilermaker career. —Alan Karpick PUBLISHING SCHEDULE Express Posting Issue Date 21 Mon., Feb. 16 22 Mon., Feb. 23 23 Mon., March 2 24 Mon., March 9 Glossy Mailing Issue Date 4 Feb. 25
