PREP PROFILES Decision Nearing For Indiana Wide Receiver Fort Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers wide receiver Austin Mack plans to make his college decision June 7, but still has a few things to sort out before that hap- pens. "I have the ba- sics of all of the schools I'm look- ing at, and I un- d e r s t a n d w h a t my personal top five is. It's time to get out to the s c h o o l s t o s e e the political and business part of the school," said Mack, who is also con- sidering Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan State. "I'm going to find out how I'd fit in, the run/pass ratio, the education and all of that stuff." The four-star wide receiver was on Michigan's radar during the Brady Hoke era and still is after the hiring of Jim Harbaugh and his staff. Mack was high on the Wolverines before Harbaugh came in, and while the high-profile coaching staff is defi- nitely attractive to Mack, the lack of a relationship seems to be a hurdle for the 6-2, 205 pound pass catcher. "Their coaching staff is incredible," he said. "Coach Harbaugh brought in some big-time guys. I think they'll get going in a few years. However, it's going to be hard to build a rela- tionship with them because I'm go- ing into my senior year and I want to be committed in June. "I'm still working hard to get m o re i n f o r m a - tion to see how it's going to be d i ff e re n t f ro m the Brady Hoke Michigan. I loved Brady Hoke, and M i c h i g a n w a s one of my favor- ite schools when I started getting recruited." After a huge junior season during which Mack piled up 1,000 receiving yards and a staggering 22 touchdowns, schools outside of the Midwest finally began to show him some attention. With a decision looming, Mack must decide how important it is to him to play close to home. "I do want to be able to come back home and have my parents come see my games," he said. "That's a huge factor. So I feel the West Coast and, realistically, more than eight hours is kind of pushing it. "There are new schools coming in like Alabama and Tennessee, which I haven't visited. I'm trying to get down there to see what it's like. I just want to be committed by June and help build my class because I want to win championships of my own." — Brandon Brown ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Bishop Luers High School Fort Wayne, Ind.
