Issue 42 / 2012 www.guestlist.net FESTIVAL 17 7 SUN AND BASS FESTIVAL 1st- 8th September @ San Teodoro, Italy For one whole week, people from all around the world gather together and dance to the music and celebrate life! The holiday was thought of for friends to take a break and a chance to meet like minded people. It re- mains one of the strongest attractions to Sun and Bass and has a cutting edge musical diversity. It has been around for the past nine years, with the first party taking place in 2003. It has become a well known event around the world for drum and bass lovers and it's definitely one of the most unique festivals in the world. Makoto from Japan and Paradox Live were just a few names Sun and Bass is an exclusive drum and bass holiday on the Italian island of Sardinia. on the line-up that year, which proved to be another extravagant week! This year, Body and Soul, Nu:Tone, Paradox and Skeptical are a few names on a long list of people who are on the decks, while DRS, Fava, Stamina MC and 2Shy are a few people are performing with their vocal talent. With a lot of talent on show, everyone's bound to go bonkers! It's one the main events during the week, it's one of the best experiences and it'll blow your mind away! So, for all you drum and bass lovers, attending SUNANDBASS would be glamorous and it's an event you wouldn't want to miss! WILDERNESS FESTIVAL REVIEW Rocking up to the Wilderness Festival, was something of a pleasant breeze in comparison to the other festivals I have been to this summer. Immediately greeted by friendly stewards and not to mention sunshine, our long awaited old pal, I instantly knew it would be a 'good time vibes' festival. It's clear that a lot of thought went into it. Three words spring to mind. 'Twee', 'Civilized' and 'Child-Friendly'- ok that's four, but admittedly it's the perfect festival to 'bring your kinds along to'- there is a whole programme of workshops (distractions) and activities, and even a boutique babysitting service so that parents can es- cape to listen to aforementioned music and debate and a quick Yoga section. "O, how civilized it sounds' I hear you say, yes! It really is! It doesn't claim to have the big- gest or best line up, but rather it bills itself as "a celebration of the arts and outdoors". Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela along side a 10 piece Cuban band were noth- ing sure of gobsmackingly awe- some- as usual with their per- fectly polished live act. Alt-rock veterans Wilco closed Saturday night with music from last year's excellent album The Whole Love and some gems from their ex- tensive back catalogue. Other highlights of mine were Austra- lian Music Prize winners Cloud Control, fellow Australians The Temper Trap (who've just leased their sophomore album) and re- Fighters. Did I mention there was some mass skinny dipping event?- yes lots of tanlines be- ing exposed, followed by some delicious vegetarian food made by Yotam Ottolenghi. A smile all round! electro rockers Crystal SECRET GARDEN PARTY FESTIVAL REVIEW Secret Garden Party (SGP) is a magical escape for 30,000 people to experience in the Cambridgeshire SGP stands out amongst the rest thanks to its close attention to detail and is the perfect getaway for those bored of everyday life. Adding to the exhilarating atmosphere, countryside. moving theatre, circus and imaginative costumes, art has a big part to play. Mud is thrown into the mix-great big swamps of it- getting you into true festival spirit thanks to the good old British weather. Though SGP isn't all about the music, it does offer up some pretty good choices and here are a few examples; The Great Stage - With the lake as with installations, situated at the bottom of a hill it's an ideal main stage. The Pagoda Stage - Tucked away around the back of the pagoda is a floating stage that spans out into the lake, the backdrop and cleverly with an array of cracking DJ's. Artful Badgers - A hedonistic world of pulsating beats, tribal dancing, unrelenting madness. Colosseum Host to the Bearded Kitten Show and designed like a mini Roman coliseum this stage certainly takes on the eccentricity of a Caligula esq bacchanal. With lots of nakedness, mud wrestling, circus, acrobatics and just outright weirdness. It is a party that has it all - good music, side shows, food, dancing, workshops and it's easy to navigate! The party continued from Thursday to Monday but the real highlight came on Saturday night as Orbital drew to a close. The mesmerising, coloured sky over the lake blended with a burst of fireworks and left the crowd in amazement. SGP we salute you for this truly unforgettable festival. animal heads and NOZSTOCK: THE HIDDEN VALLET REVIEW The Gods must have fancied the Nozstock 2012 line-up, as perfect weather held up for the duration of the festival! It is colourful, unique, Nozstock's home-grown bars will continue to offer the Wye Valley's favourite brew Butty Bach, local Kingston Rosey & Press ciders. I would highly reconmend this unique festival for anyone look- ing for a good vibes festival. Be- ing so small compared to most other it a very homely feel, everyone becomeing great friends.
