GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 17 • 17 April Wilson 25 G • 5-7 • Jr. Wilson's not shooting well during the three- game losing streak, hitting only a field goal in each of the last three outings. She's 3-of-22 (13.6 percent) during that time, with only one made three-pointer. Although perimeter shooting isn't a strength of her game — she's only hit nearly 33 percent of her three-pointers during her career — she's generally good in mid-range. But those shots aren't falling and it's hinder- ing Purdue's already pedestrian offense. Ashley Morrissette 1 G • 5-9 • So. Morrissette's scoring at a good rate recently, hitting the teens in the last five games, averaging 15.8 per contest during the stretch. She's found some openings, and is trying to take advantage, with opponents sinking down into the lane and daring the Boilermakers to shoot from the perim- eter. Until Morrisette and the rest of her teammates can consistently make teams pay for that tactic, then they'll continue to use it. Morrissette had a career-high nine assists vs. Wisconsin, many of them coming as she led the break. Andreona Keys 24 5-10 • G • Fr. Keys has started two games in the place of injured Bridget Perry. The second — the loss to Wis- consin — she was quiet offensively much of the way until a pair of three- pointers midway through the second half gave the Boilermakers a bounce. But during that stretch, Purdue got little else offensively as the Badgers took back control. Keys has hit three three-pointers in the last two games, a trend that might force oppo- nents out of the paint a bit more. She's also rebounded well in Perry's absence, collect- ing 14 in the last two outings. Liza Clemons 23 F • 6-2 • Sr. Clemons recorded yet another near double- double, as she's done now for three straight games. Against Wisconsin, she had eight points and nine rebounds, yet it felt as though it could have been more. The Badgers aren't equipped to deal with the Boilermakers' size, yet Purdue is having trou- ble consistently going there as well, because opponents are packing so many defenders in the paint. Clemons had only seven field goal attempts vs. UW; it could have — and maybe should have — been double that. Whitney Bays 32 F • 6-2 • Sr. (5) Bays had to get a late offensive rebound vs. Wisconsin to keep her double-double streak alive, now up to eight games. She was very good again against the Badgers, hitting half of her 14 shots for 18 points with the 10 rebounds. She also had four steals and four blocked shots. It's too bad Purdue doesn't have enough scor- ers around her, or Bays' offensive numbers might be even higher. As it is, she's trying to deal with double teams and is still often finding ways to put the ball in the bucket. Gold and Black's Women's Hoops Lineup The Starters Hayden Hamby 10 G • 5-7 • Jr. Hamby put in a couple baskets on drives to the lane against Wisconsin, but missed six other shots — one other drive was rejected, too often a occurrence — and she missed three three- pointers. Purdue could use some juice off the bench, particularly offensively, but Ham- by's not been consistent enough, not now and not previously, to do so regularly. Bree Horrocks 22 C • 6-5 • Fr. Horrocks didn't play against the Badgers, only her second DNP in the Big Ten this season. She had been at least relatively productive in the last three outings, scoring 10 points. But matchups matter, par- ticularly for Horrocks, who right now needs to go up against a similarly skilled big. Adjusting to the speed of the game is going to be a big key for Horrocks going forward. Torrie Thornton 4 F • 6-0 • Jr. Thornton is giving the Boilermakers a lot of energy off the bench, and production, too. In only 15 minutes against Wisconsin, she had six rebounds and five points. If she's healthy — and the knees have been a problem over the years — perhaps Thornton needs to be in more often. In the last five games, she's averaged nearly five rebounds off the bench. Her athleticism helps her score inside, although she's a bit quick on the trigger offensively at times. The Shelf Bridget Perry 13 F • 6-2 • So. Perry's likely out another few weeks with a high ankle sprain, suffered early in the loss to Mary- land Jan. 8. Her injury has hurt the Boilermak- ers, taking away a player who can create offense for herself and others and limiting Purdue's bench. The Reserves Deep Bench Haley Bodnar 43* F • 6-3 • Fr. Justine Hall 5 5-10 • G • Fr. Erica Moore 21^ 6-2 • F • Fr. * Out with injury ^ Suspended indefinitely For Season Stats Click Here — Kyle Charters
