GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 17 • 18 BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com H aving moved into the start- ing lineup for the last couple games, Andreona Keys hasn't flinched. The freshman is filling in for Bridget Perry — the sophomore is out at least a month with a high an- kle sprain — doing so against Iowa and Wisconsin the last two games, in which she's combined for 15 points and 14 rebounds, twice hitting her career-high of seven rebounds. "I knew Coach (Sharon Versyp), before Bridget even got hurt, said 'We need more from you,'" Keys said after the Iowa game, her first career start. "So the whole time I thought I needed to step it up a notch. Then, obviously getting put in the starting lineup, I was like 'OK, I need to give my team more with Bridget out.' (Her) rebounding and scoring are gone, so I need to make up for that and do my part." The rookie's production has been a pleasant addition to the Boil - ermakers this season, after she had missed her junior year at Roswell High School in Georgia with a knee injury; that likely was one of the rea- sons she was the lowest-ranked of Purdue's incoming class. But she's frequently played be- yond her years in her first season. The 5-foot-10 wing is averaging 5.8 points and three rebounds per game, and three times she's scored in double figures. Keys was excel- lent against the Hawkeyes, scoring nine points despite taking only five field goal attempts. Her shot was off vs. Wisconsin, when she missed eight of her 10, but the two makes, both three-pointers, helped give the Boilermakers a needed second- half boost. "She went above and beyond," Versyp said following the loss to Iowa. "It was her best rebound- ing game, a really strong offensive game but she has never had to play that hard and attack and get those rebounds and she was able to at- tack the basket, missed some bun- nies but she'll hit those next time. Tom Campbell Andreona Keys has started the last two games for the Boilermakers, as she fills in for injured starter Bridget Perry. 2014-15 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Date Opponent Time/Result Nov. 9 FINDLAY (exb.)
