GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 27 • 21 BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com T he Boilermakers will soon be get- ting some of their injured players back, able to start a more active offseason. Andreona Keys, Bridget Perry and Tor- rie Thornton are out of individual workouts as they rehabilitate from injuries left over from the season but could start more ac- tivities near the start of May. Perry might be the most beat up, even if she's the one who didn't need sur- gery. The wing missed a month of the season with an ankle injury, but by the end of the year her knee was starting to bother her as well. She got it banged in the first game of the Big Ten Tournament in early March, although at the time it was attributed to the multiple ail- ments already plaguing her. "It probably happened when her ankle got hit, but there were no signs with the knee," Coach Sharon Versyp said at Purdue's postseason banquet on March 31. "Any- time you'd jar it or something, it'd start bothering her. Her not playing at the end, her whole leg was shot. She wasn't healthy at all and we discov- ered another injury as we con- tinued to do tests. But those symptoms didn't show mainly until after spring break." Keys had a knee scoped, the same knee that previously had an ACL tear. Her and Thorn- ton, who had foot surgery and missed the last month of the season, are expected back around May 1. Meanwhile, Lamina Coo- per, an incoming freshman, had ACL surgery on March 25. "It went well," Versyp said. "If everything goes well, she'll be ready to go for the season in November." VERSYP HONORED FOR MILESTONE Versyp was hon- ored March 31 as part of the 2015 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Victory Club, recognizing her 300th career victory as a head coach. Ver- syp is one of 48 coach- es honored this year. Versyp earned her 300th career win in the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Tour- nament as the Boiler- makers topped visiting Akron in Mackey Arena. The milestone oc- curred after the 2014 Victory Club deadline, bumping the Boilermak- er head coach into the 2015 class. Versyp has earned 194 of her 311 career wins on the Boilermaker sidelines, good for second-most in school history. She is just 12 wins shy of the Purdue career coaching wins record, held by Lin Dunn at 206. DANIELS, SENIORS SPEAK AT BANQUET Purdue's postseason banquet had a bit of a different feel than years past, with the Boilermakers coming off a season in which they Tom Campbell Bridget Perry needed time to rehab following the season, after knee and ankle injuries late in the year.
