GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 27 • 24 reer at Rice, is believed to be trans- ferring in order to find a full-time point guard role elsewhere rather than staying at 'Nova, which returns starting point guard Ryan Arcidi- acono and welcomes high school All-American Jalen Brunson. Ennis announced a list of eight schools he's considering: Purdue, Duke, Illinois, Oregon, Georgia Tech, Baylor, Tennessee and LSU. Visits will be set soon, with Purdue potentially being in line to have him on cam- pus in the near term. Following the departure of one-year transfer Jon Octeus and junior-to-be Bryson Scott's trans- fer, Purdue is left with just rising sophomore P.J. Thompson among returnees at the position, putting a premium on transfer additions this spring. Purdue has also communicat- ed with Alabama fifth-year transfer point guard Ricky Tarrant. He was the Crimson Tide's second-leading scorer at 13.1 points per game this season before missing the season's final 15 games with a foot injury. Purdue has also talked to Mi- ami point guard transfer Manu Lecomte, who started 23 games for the NIT runners-up this season and averaged 7.9 points per game. Lecomte, a native of Belgium, would have to sit out next season before getting to use his final two seasons of eligibility, raising an in- teresting hypothetical for the Boiler- makers, who could use one of their two open scholarships now on an immediately eligible point guard, then the other on a sit-out transfer who could then enter the mix in 2016. That would preclude Purdue from recruiting a high school point guard in its 2016 signing class, but would replace it with a more expe- rienced player who'd have a chance to be in the program for a full sea- son before seeing the floor. Purdue's long-term point guard outlook changed some with the recent decommit- ment of 2016 recruit C.J. Walk- er, who committed to Purdue in the fall but backed out a few weeks ago over style-of- play concerns, he said. The Boilermaker coach- ing staff immediately target- ed Lima, Ohio, point guard Xavier Simpson, who has of- fers from Illinois, Xavier, Iowa, Iowa State and numerous others, along with interest from Michigan State and Ohio State. SPRING GAME VISITOR Among the 2016 recruits who visited for Purdue's spring game Saturday was Columbus (Ind.) North tight end Drew Schoeberl, a player the Boilermaker coaching staff could soon offer. "As soon as they offer me, they'd become the No. 1 school for me," Schoeberl said in the winter, after a junior day visit. "That's a big school and I want to study engineering in college and they're right up there with anybody academically." A large portion of Purdue's in- coming freshman class attended the spring game also. Among those seen in Ross-Ade Stadium for the scrimmage were Texas' Andy Chelf, Georgians Evyn Cooper and Tario Fuller, Maryland's Wyatt Cook and in-state offensive linemen Matt McCann and Peyton Truitt. North Carolina's Chazmyn Turner and Ohio's Markus Bailey were also expected. NOTEBOOK S Long-time Purdue recruiting target and McDonald's All-Ameri- can Caleb Swanigan committed to Michigan State after also consider- ing California and the Boilermakers. S Purdue 2016 scoring guard target Jarron Cumberland was slat- ed to officially visit last weekend, but his trip was postponed due to work conflicts for his parents. Cumberland, ranked 65th na- tionally by Rivals.com in his class, also has offers from Cincinnati, Xavi- er and Butler, but the Boilermakers are regarded as his leader. j Coming this fall on your computer or mobile device!
