Young girls would don floral garlands for the celebration of the spring equinox, now they've transformed into a festival accessory, littering fields from Coachella to Glasto – seriously you can't move for the fucking things. We're sliding into the season once again, so get ready for a whole lot of flower crowns com- ing your way Early 20th century– Mexican artist Frida Kahlo is often photographed wearing flower crowns and features them in her famous self-portraits. For her flowers symbolised sexuality, and wearing them was a way of sending the message that her sexuality was firmly linked with her identity. 1986 – Courtney Love wears a flower crown on the cover of Details magazine. She does a big about turn in 2014, telling Style. com "Flower crowns are over. Fuck flower crowns." Alas, she was wrong. 1965– Smack in the middle of the flower child era, model Jean Shrimpton tops a flower crown in Vogue magazine.. 2010/11 – Meadham Kirchhoff bring flower crowns back into fashion after showing sequinned and floral tiaras for both their fall 2010 and spring 2011 collections. Dec 2011– To round off the year that seemed to be peak flower crown, Lana Del Rey, the modern flower crown queen, wears a mega headpiece in her video for 'Born To Die'. She then proceeds to wear them pretty much non-stop. 2014– Lorde ditches the glam- goth look and sports a daisy crown in a spread for the March issue of US Vogue. May 2015 -The flower crown returns to high fashion as Fan Bingbing wears a Marchesa ensemble complete with 3D pastel flowers and a matching crown on the Cannes red carpet. Summer 2015 – It ain't a festival unless someone's wearing a flower crown. Get ready for four months of floral fever. April 2015– Beyonce rocks a flower crown at Coachella whilst also wearing a t-shirt that reads "go burn your flower crown". Only Queen B could pull off something so meta.
