It's a KIng's Cross tIng:
swImmIng pond
The King's Cross Pond Club has opened to the public
The 40 metre freshwater bathing pond
in the heart of King's Cross is the first of
its kind in the UK. The pond is all natural;
wetland and water plants filter the water,
keeping it clean. So that means no
chemicals and no heating.
Designed to bring together nature
and leisure, the pond is actually an art
installation entitled 'Of Soil and Water'. As
Eva Pfannes of Ooze Architects explained,
"the juxtaposition of something so natural
in an urban environment was a very
important idea for us. It is meant to look
unpolished and to evolve as the seasons
change."
The pond is open Monday to Friday, 6am
until dusk, and from 8am on weekends,
with tickets ranging from £3.50 to £6.50.
So if you've got a bit of time before your
next train, you can splash in a pond rather
than sit in Starbucks.
Those good folks at Koppaberg are back with free festival fun for a whole five weeks.
Running every Wednesday to Sunday until 12th July, Koppaberg Urban Forest hosts some
of the finest music in town, and as well as a Koppaberg Bar, the pine forest pop-up will
also be serving up eats from Buffalo Joe's, Le Bun, and Mama's Jerk.
Katy B, Ms Dynamite, Submotion Orchestra, Norman Jay, XOV, DJ Yoda, Slow Club, Avec
Sans, Trevor Nelson, Supa Dupa Fly, Hip Hop Karaoke, Chromeo, Cuban Brothers, Kyko
and Citizens! are just some of the names on the music line-up, with more acts yet to be
confirmed.
