Issue 44 / 2012 ME TO PARIS! ON A BUDGET DRINKING 25 Est Best known for its live music and bar terrace, 25 Est overlooks the northern side of the Paris canal where you can get you a beer for €5 even after happy hour. A pretty good deal for Paris prices with a great view chucked in. Hideout €2 a pint is incredible for Paris, which is what this hole in the wall provides. It's dingy, elbow- to-elbow with people, and a total bargain! BYOB Drinking in Paris is expensive no matter where you go. Make like the locals and buy some wine or beer from a supermarket for €2-4 and head to a nearby garden, there's enough of them. Chartier With classic French food on the menu such as beef bourguignon, at Chartier you can get a main course for €8 or three for as low as €20, and it doesn't compromise on elegance or taste. Au Duc de Montmorency This bistro is well known for its creative, fresh dishes at low budget prices. The owner, who formerly served at higher end restaurants, brings his know how to the Parisian streets. Le Petit Picard In a neo-kitcsch setting, this gay themed restaurant can give you a generously portioned three course meal and a quater bottle of wine for €18. EATING SLEEPING PARTYING Pour Vous Paris For average of €45 a night, you can sleep in a spare room of a Parisian's apartment. It has to be booked well in advance, but it is a great chance to pick up on local tips and enjoy real French food and living.. Du Chat Noir This hotel is located just down the road from the Moulin Rouge and just above an incredibly tasty restaurant. It has a cool name and can provide for all your needs. Fred'Hotel A petite family run hotel, very close to the metro, small, comfy and cheap. If you just want a bed to crash in, this hotel is the one. La Bar Dix This bar is set in the Latin quarter of Paris and has provided students with cheap drinks and good deals since the 60s. La Fleche d'Or With an almost Berlin-feel to it, you can get free entry to this music venue most nights, unless there is a set artist playing. Beer will set you back €5 a demi but, it is Paris! Le Gambetta Free concerts are held Wednesday-Sunday here with €2 beers on offer. Playing host to reggae, blues and ragga nights. www.guestlist.net TRAVEL 25 7 23
