PLOWING DOWN THE FIELD Polaris Sits On Top With Its Third Consecutive Score San Felipe 250 UTV With Brock Heger’s Performance By Larry Saavedra Photos by Get Some Photo RZR Factory racer Brock Heger delivered another stunning blow to UTV classes at the KING Shocks 39th SCORE San Felipe 250, after starting near the back of the field. Heger took the SCORE UTV Overall and the Class win in SCORE UTV Pro Open at the first race of the 2026 season. This win marks his second consecutive win at the SCORE San Felipe 250 and extends Polaris’ winning streak at the event across three consecutive years. Although he started eighth off the grid, Heger made quick work of dissecting the field of 23 class entries after suffering a suspension failure early on. “I lost a rear shock at race mile 10 and had to limp into the pits,” said Heger. “The entire SCI Motorsports team crushed the shock swap. My co-driver and I got back on course, and I started to pick our way through the pack.” Heger thinks the shock issue was a fluke. Once changed he persevered. “I know we fell way back, and I told my co-driver to hang on,” he said. “At the top of the legendary Matomi Wash I tagged a rock, and that caused a tire puncture. Then I tagged another rock miles later, and that took out another tire. But I kept fighting.” The day full of dust for all the UTV competitors, but there were also moments where Heger said had a clear view of the race cars ahead of him. About 30 miles from the finish, he made his move and passed anyone in front of him. “I had cactus stuck in my shirt and that motivated me to get to the finish as quickly as possible,” he said. “I simply wanted to make sure no one crossed the finish line before me.” Race day was hot, but it was nothing that would stop Heger from winning. “It’s hotter where I live, so it felt like home,” he said. “You always get lots of whoops in the SCORE San Felipe 250, but it wasn’t horrible, although it was rough driving near the town of San Felipe.” “I didn’t stick by the normal driving style of being smooth,” he added. “I fell so far behind I had to be content with driving it until the RZR broke. I didn’t want to finish too far down, and I just put my best foot forward.” Fortunately for Heger the RZR didn’t fail his aggressive driving. His ability to work when things get tough seemed to be his calling card, judging by several close-calls last year in Baja. He can’t be counted out until the race is over. Nevertheless, with this win, Heger now has everyone’s attention going into the SCORE Baja 500. We just have to wait and see what happens next. SJ
