Politicians, indigenous people, priests, businessmen and other activists gathered together to accuse Duterte of authoritarianism. People were also protesting against the policies that were put in place for the war on drugs that has killed thousands. Placards read "Stop The Killings" and "No To Martial Rule". Citizens fear that Duterte will one day follow through on his threats and declare military rule in a similar way to dictator Ferdinand Marcos. A Filipino leader who ruled under martial law, a regime that became infamous for its brutality & corruption. Senator Risa Hontiveros said democracy was under threat by a "DYOR and see what's going on for yourself." Several people took to streets in the Philippines to call for the denunciation of President Rodrigo Duterte, who they say is the head of a dictatorship. THOUSANDS TAKE TO THE STREETS TO WARN OF DUTERTE'S EMERGING DICTATORSHIP SMELLS DODGY The category 5 Hurricane Irma left several dead and millions of dollars in damage to Islands across the West Indies, including Guadalupe, Antigua & Barbuda, Haiti and Puerto Rico. Most of the islands managed to avoid a direct hit from Hurricane Jose, but the storm still caused considerable damage to Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands. To assist in the relief effort, the Mr & Miss West Indies UK Pageant contestants are using their mandatory community service projects to raise funding for their respective causes. One pound from each project admission has been designated to be sent to the official commission's hurricane relief fund. "It is times like these when we need to unite as a people and live up to our motto of being a pageant with a purpose," said Fiona Hewitt, founder of the Mr & Miss West Indies UK Pageant. "I am proud to see all of our representatives stepping in to bring much-needed aid to their home Islands. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of the people who were affected by these terrible storms." The contestants for the second annual Mr & Miss West Indies UK Pageant support citizens in the West Indies impacted by Hurricanes Irma & Jose, which slammed the Caribbean on the 1st of September with 155-mile-an-hour winds.
