We know there's a highboy there, a Fitz Henry Lane there, a John Sloan there, and we're all waiting for the phone call we hope will come." In the business's earlier years, phone calls to New England Gallery often came from Boston law firms settling estates. "We have enjoyed a good reputation," says Bob. "We have been discreet. We got the best of everything—furniture, silver, jewelry, paintings—that came up on the North Shore." Later on, competition with auction houses for the law firms' business grew. He had already been helping his uncle and aunt on a part-time basis since he was a student at North Andover High School. Shortly after college graduation in 1980, he went full-time. With Miller onboard, Bob and Burma could make a major personal transition: They moved to Sarasota, Florida, where today they live in a house on the water ("It's modern, but furnished in antiques," shares Bob) and run a second New England Gallery.
