Heck, the Boilermakers themselves didn't think it was possible. "No, none of us," admitted senior Courtney Moses Sunday, after she had guided Purdue to a thrashing of No. 16 Nebraska on senior day in Mackey Are- na. "We had faith, but to actually do it and say at the end of it that we went 6-0, it's a storybook ending." Yet, a beginning, too. The winning streak, Purdue's longest of the season, leaves the Boilermakers surging into the Big Ten Tournament. The victory over Nebraska — the Cornhuskers had won nine straight and were playing for a share of the league title, but were dis- mantled by the Boilers — gives Purdue the fourth seed. The Boilermakers will look to defend their back-to-back titles starting at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Indianapo- lis, playing either Iowa or Illinois. A month ago, Purdue had few guar- antees. Houser was injured, tearing her ACL at Michigan State on Feb. 2, in the second of two straight losses that knocked the Boilermakers from Big Ten regular-season contention. But in the locker room after the loss, with Houser hobbled, Purdue started to put the pieces back together. A win over Ohio State came four days later, af- ter Purdue looked disorganized in the first 10 minutes yet found a way to pull away late. Then, the Boilermakers rallied in back-to-back games, from down 14 at Michigan and 18 vs. Iowa at home. They blew out Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ne- braska in the last three, winning by an average margin of more than 18 points per game. In making up for the loss of Houser's team-highs of nearly 16 points and more than five assists per game, Purdue has gotten contributions from deep within its roster.
