GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 12 • 11 BY TRAVIS BAUGH AND ALAN KARPICK W ide receiver Shane Wynn will leave Bloomington as one of the most accomplished wideouts in Indiana history. The 5-foot-7, 165-pound re- ceiver ranks third in receptions (183) and kick return yards (1,854), tied for third in touchdown receptions (20), fourth in all-purpose yards (4,339), seventh in receiving yards (2,151) and ninth in total TDs (24). Wynn leads Indiana with 50 receptions for 661 yards and three touchdowns in 2014 while also serving as a dynamic weapon on kick and punt returns. "For Shane Wynn to be able to go on throughout his life and tell people he won two in a row and won his last game, that to me is more important than anything for me as a coach or anything as a staff," Indiana offensive coordina - tor Kevin Johns told reporters this week. "I need to send Shane Wynn out of here a winner." STILL IN THE CELLAR Indiana's defense has made strides under new defensive co- ordinator Brian Knorr, allowing 87 fewer yards per game than it did in 2013. However, the Hoosiers still rank last in the Big Ten in scor- ing defense (34.4) and pass de- fense (262.3) and 13th in total defense (440.8). The defense's inability to limit the opposition has over- shadowed three games when running back Tevin Coleman has rushed for 190 yards or more: Bowling Green (45-42), Rutgers (45-23) and Ohio State (42-27). Except for a 13-7 defeat at Penn State, the Hoosiers have allowed at least 34 points in ev- ery conference game. "We still have to prove a lit- tle bit, but we're playing pretty well," senior linebacker David Cooper told local reporters. "We'd like to play even better than we have the past couple weeks in this rivalry game." RETURNING FROM INJURY Indiana hopes to get a pair of its key contributors on of- fense back from injury Saturday in wide receiver Nick Stoner and tackle Ralston Evans. Stoner started the first eight games of the season before suf- fering a hamstring injury. He ranks second on the team with 167 receiving yards on 16 catch- es this season. Evans has 21 career starts for the Hoosiers and earned Indi- ana offensive player of the week honors for his efforts against Missouri and Penn State. "It would be nice to get those guys back in," Wilson said. "They're four-year guys, been with us a long time. If there's a chance to get those guys on the field and their bodies can (hold up) — and they can play well for us and help us win, I'd love to get those guys back. HISTORICALLY SPEAKING Though the Hoosiers are fa- vored by less than a field goal, Indiana is in position to win back-to-back games in the se- ries for the first time in 20 years. In fact, Wilson can become the first IU head coach to win mul- tiple games in the series since Bill Mallory. Mallory, who still attends IU games, won six of 13 meetings against the Boiler- makers, and his victories were all in the back-to-back scenario (1987-88, 1990-91, 1993-94). Coleman will be looking for his fifth 200-yard rushing game in this season and would become the fourth Hoosier to rush for 200 yards in a Bucket game. The top two rushing per- formances in the annual rivalry game belong to Boilermakers as Otis Armstrong rushed for 276 in Purdue's 42-7 win in 1972 in Ross-Ade and Mike Alstott gained 264 yards in a 51-14 Boil- ermaker win in Bloomington on the Friday after Thanksgiving in 1995, the only time the game has been played on any other day besides a Saturday in the 116-game series. IU's best rush- ing performances were Alex Smith with 245 yards in 1994, Lonnie Johnson with 220 in 1980 and Courtney Snyder with 211 in 1975. The lone Hoosier victory in those three games came in '94 when IU won 33-29 in West Lafayette. j What You Need To Know About Indiana Tom Campbell Quarterback Danny Etling threw for 343 of his 485 yards in the second half of last year's 56-36 Indiana victory.
