Gold and Black Illustrated at 25
As we celebrate our 25th year of publishing Gold and Black Illustrated, we look
back at memorable covers while reflecting what was going on at the time.
This image is what the Bucket game is
supposed to be all about. Laying claim to the prized trophy
can help put some salve on a disappointing season, as it did
when running back Jaycen Taylor appeared on the Nov. 28,
2009 issue.
And the versatile Taylor made the most of his last ap-
pearance in a Boilermaker uniform, rushing for 110 yards and
a touchdown while also catching six passes for 59 yards. He
played a bigger role in the contest, subbing for the injured
Ralph Bolden, a common theme in Bucket games over the
years as the list of unsung heroes is long.
The Boilermakers finished the '09 campaign under first-
year coach Danny Hope with a 5-7 record, just missing a bowl
appearance after some close losses to the likes of Oregon,
Notre Dame and Michigan State.
