GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 14 • 11 DONE? Though Jac- quil Taylor played in six games this season — for 42 minutes — he still thinks there's a chance he could redshirt. Taylor hasn't played in the last five games, since getting five minutes Dec. 10 against Arkansas State. Because Taylor has played in regular season games, Purdue would need to document an injury-related cause for pulling Taylor back for a medi - cal redshirt, as was the case in past years with Carl Landry's knee and Jay Simpson's foot. "It's possible I am going to red- shirt because of my shin," Taylor said Friday. "I've been having prob- lems with it lately. And my foot, I've had bone spurs, so it's kind of hard for me to get up and down. So I can't really go full-court as hard as I used to. I do like half a practice and then three-quarter practice. It makes sense for me to redshirt so I can get healthy." Clearly the most raw of Pur- due's freshmen class — each of the four players has started at least one game — Taylor could likely use this season to not only get stronger but also to adjust to the speed of the college game and grasp Purdue's offensive and defensive systems. Early in the year when he did get playing time, Taylor seemed a step slow, and that's an issue because athleticism is one of his best traits. Though he was hoping to play as role in his first season, Taylor said he's adjusting to the fact that his playing time has been limited and, ultimately, that he may not play the rest of this season. "Coming in, you always want to play. But you're just look - ing at what's better for you, to get healthy and your long-term future. I know I'm young and I want to play now — you want to play on the big stage, like, right now — but future-wise, you want to get healthy and be able to play long-term." ROTATION TIGHTENED For the first time this season, Painter played five players at least 30 minutes last week against Michigan. Painter's reasoning was simple. "We're not playing as well when we sub," he said after giving four starters and Hammons at least 31 minutes against the Wolverines. "We've tried to balance some min- utes out and we haven't been as productive." Painter used three subs against Michigan, and Bryson Scott didn't play. After the game, Painter only said Scott wasn't a good matchup against Michigan and starting point guard Jon Octeus was "great" with 13 points, eight rebounds and no turnovers. But Scott also missed a portion of Friday's practice. IN THE BOOKS Purdue's second-half domi- nance of Michigan on Saturday helped push the program to re- cord-book numbers. Michigan's 18.2 second-half field-goal percentage was the sixth-lowest by an opponent in a half in school history. The Boilermakers' plus-22 re- bounding margin — buoyed by a 26-7 second-half advantage — was the largest against the Wolver- ines since Jan. 30, 1960 (plus-26). Michigan's six points in the paint were the fewest allowed in the Painter Era. Purdue snapped a four-game losing streak to the Wolverines, and it hadn't allowed as few as the 51 points in the series since Feb. 13, 2002, a 79-43 victory. j PURDUEFED.COM/VISA CHARGE ON PURDUE FANS.
