GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 18 • 21 Kelly Komara, now a Purdue assistant coach. "It was a situation where nobody knew how to stop her. They knew she was left-handed, they knew she was going left, but they could not stop her. It was the end of a tied game, we knew she was going to take it left, every- body in the gym knew she would take it left and nobody could stop her. "(She was) a fierce competitor. Nobody is more deserving of it than Katie Douglas." PERRY UPDATE Bridget Perry is likely out at least anoth- er week, perhaps two. The sophomore wing was injured vs. Maryland Jan. 8, a high ankle sprain that needs a 4-to-6 week recovery period. That could have her ready for the Feb. 2 game at Indiana, if she hits the early part of the window. "She's pro - gressing very well, but the last piece is the hardest," Coach Sharon Versyp said last week. "That's what takes the lon- gest, the jumping ability, the zig zag, the moving, cutting." Perry is averaging 9.3 points and four re- bounds per game. BOILERMAKERS HONOR HILL The Boilermakers hon- ored Lauren Hill, the termi- nally ill basketball player for Mount Saint Joseph Univer- sity, on Sunday. At a timeout during the loss to Ohio State, a Purdue jersey with Hill's No. 22 and the phrase "Never Give Up," was donated to back Purdue after it had been auctioned off for charity. Hill, a Lawrenceburg, Ind., native who has brain cancer, played in November for her collegiate team, despite hav- ing only months to live. She's continuing her fight now, while raising money — over $1 million now — to support pediatric cancer research. To learn more, visit La- yup4Lauren.org or TheCure- StartsNow.org. VERSYP GETS 100 In her ninth season as Pur- due's head coach and one pre- vious at Indiana, Versyp picked up her 100th victory in the Big Ten on Thursday, when the Boilermakers won at Minnesota. Versyp is now 100-59 against league foes. j Tom Campbell Andrew Howe (right) donated his No. 22 "Never Give Up" Purdue jersey, honoring basketball player Lauren Hill, back to the university after the school had donated it to Mount Saint Joseph's for it's program's auction to raise money for cancer research. It'll hang in Mackey Arena. BIG TEN STANDINGS (Through Jan. 25) Team Big Ten/Pct. Overall/Pct 1. Maryland 8-0/1.000 17-2/.895 2. Iowa 6-1/.857 15-3/.833 3. Nebraska 5-2/.714 15-3/.833 4.
