DEFENSIVE END ON THE CLOCK
After a weekend visit to Purdue, defensive end Ma-
thieu Betts says he's been given a deadline of Wednesday
to decide whether or not he'll accept the Boilermaker
coaching staff's offer.
Betts said Darrell Hazell asked him during his visit
for a decision within that time frame so that Purdue can
move on to other targets if he opts elsewhere.
The Montreal native also has offers from Temple and
Buffalo, among others, but his decision may come down
to what country he wants to play in, as opposed to what
school.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound pass-rusher — Betts re-
corded 15 sacks as a senior at Vieux High School — has
already committed to Laval Rouge et Or, one of the top
college programs in Canada, but is exploring his U.S. op-
tions.
"I decided to head back to Montreal to talk about it with
my family, the people I'm close to, and my girlfriend," Betts
said, "just to make sure I'm making that right decision. Coach
Hazell, even though he needs a defensive end right now for
his roster, understood that. We agreed that I would decide
(by) Wednesday."
Betts was one of three official visitors on campus last
weekend.
Arizona offensive tackle Davis Perrott visited West Lafay-
ette weeks after making a commitment to Washington State.
The Rivals.com three-star offensive lineman committed to
the Cougars over a dozen other offers.
Previously committed linebacker Tim Faison also made
his official visit to campus.
TIGHT END COMMITS
Purdue landed its second tight end commitment last
week when Texas' Jess Trussell pledged a few days after his
official visit.
The former UCF commitment chose Purdue over an offer
