Night Out at Eagle ’Crossing I.F. brings out the sticks Soccer, hockey and football all have their place, but imagine for a moment that you could combine the best of all three into one full-field super sport. It actually exists. It’s called lacrosse, and it is quickly catching on right here in I.F. thanks to the Idaho Falls Lacrosse Club. This young organization was formally established in 2009 for boys. It is open to any 6th- to 12th-grade student with the desire to learn the fastest growing sport in America. And as of this year, the club is starting to develop a girls’ lacrosse program as well. The club is a non-profit, open-enrollment youth lacrosse orga- nization. Its purpose: teaching youth lacrosse, promoting youth lacrosse and advancing amateur youth lacrosse to school aged children in Idaho Falls and the surrounding areas in a safe and sportsman-like manner. At first glance, the sport may confound you a little. For start- ers, is that an oversized golf ball on the field? Hardly, although it might feel like one if you intercept its flight path. (The ball is solid, but actually made from a semi-soft rubber material.) Visually, the game is defined by a long-handled racquet called a crosse. The head of the crosse—also referred to as a lacrosse stick—is strung together with loose netting to hold the ball. From there, it’s all about getting the ball out of one net—and into another. You carry the ball along with the stick and then use the stick to pass the ball along and/or shoot it into an opponent’s goal. For defenders, the objective is even simpler: Do everything in your power to keep the opposing team from scoring. For more information visit the club’s web page at iflacrosse. com. As of May 7, it looks like the Motor-Vu and Sky-Vu (located on the south and north ends of Yellowstone Highway, respectively) are once again up and run- ning. If you want an Edwards Cinema experi- ence for every flick that floats into town, more power to you. Personally, I prefer the good old-fashioned double feature set against the night sky—antiquated speakers and all. Expect to find both theatres run- ning well into September. As of early May, the entry fee is $6.50 for adults and 1$ for children ages 5 to 9. For movie information call 522-2111. —T.
