fixed. It is the ultimate chicken-or-the-egg dilemma. Relevance is another key word that is bandied about when taking initial steps in trying to begin to cure what ails Boilermaker football. The first step is becoming relevant to your fans and supporters and ultimately in the world of college football. It has been nearly a decade since the Boilermakers have been relevant enough to have a real say of what happens in the Big Ten. No one needs to be reminded that has been a long time. In full disclosure, this image is Hazell doing something he just about always does: Stretching on the field a couple of hours before the game. In that seemingly insignificant act, there is significance. Hazell needs to provide that stability to a program that has lacked it of late by doing what he usually does. In some ways it needs to be business as usual, at least as it appeared to the young talent he is trying to coach up. You will read defensive coordinator Greg Hudson's comments on Page 29 about the head coach's steady guidance. The trick for Hazell and staff is while providing that foundation, that rock if you will, to the current and future players, they must also fix what was wrong this season and fix it quickly. In terms of importance, this is a "big stretch" for Purdue football. For fans of the program, hopefully it is not a "big stretch" that matters can be remedied in a reasonable length of time. Finally, the staff of Gold and Black Illustrated wishes you and yours the happiest of holidays. While this has not been the easiest of years to be a fan, there is much to be grateful for. And the good thing is, there is always 2014. j 2013-14 (Vol. 24) Publishing Schedule Gold and Black Illustrated Print Magazine IssueTopicMail Date* March/April FB recruiting/BB Feb. 28 May/June Spring FB/BB April 30 July/Aug.
