how much I've grown each year and they've really taken an interest in me." It culminated in a commitment to the Boilermakers following Purdue's elite camp in June. Then, she chose Purdue over early offers from Dayton, Illinois, Indiana and Butler, and interest from Louisville. And more offers likely would have followed had she not chosen the Boilermakers early. McBryde was the first verbal commitment in what is shaping up to be a top-10 class nationally, with the addition of Indianapolis Lawrence North guard Lamina Cooper and South Bend Washington point guard Tiara Murphy, the latter the 24th-ranked player in the country by ESPN. Also, Purdue signed five players in a 2014 class that's ranked in the top 25 and has two players already committed in 2016, marking this one of the biggest recruiting summers in recent memory. But McBryde is arguably the biggest get. Purdue envisions McBryde as a skilled power forward, one who can score on the interior but also get outside, as well, either shooting from deep or driving to the hoop. Bailey said he's trying to allow McBryde opportunities on the outside, even though her height gives her chances to dominate opponents at times inside. "Trying to look ahead for her, and see what's best for her long-term, we're trying to get her to become more perimeter-oriented and continue to work on her ball-handling, shooting, because I really think she's a kid that at that level can play multiple positions," he said. "I think she's a 3 but a kid who can play the 4 and we're trying to get her skillset to where she can step out and play the 2 if need be." McBryde feels like she's learning a lot from Bailey. Formerly an assistant at BNL — his daughter is Alexa Bailey — he took over as head coach this season after Kurt Godlevske left to join the staff of the women's program at Butler. Bailey knows basketball, obviously, having recorded the most career points in state history as a player at Bedford North Lawrence before starring for Bob Knight at Indiana from 1991-94. McBryde is soaking it in. "It's been the best experience of my life so far," she said. "He's a great coach and he's gotten me so much f better. He has a lot of knowledge of the game. I have great teammates and it's been a great experience." But teaching McBryde, Bailey says, has been relatively easy. "She's a kid who wants to be good, and that's half the battle from a coaching standpoint," he said. "You have a lot of knowledge and things that you want to pass on to kids, but if kids don't want to work at it or don't really want to be good, it doesn't matter how much we as coaches know. And Dominique is one of those kids who really takes the coaching, the teaching, the criticism well, and really tries to apply that to her game. She's a kid who has a lot of high goals and things that she wants to accomplish. "A great kid, great family, very, very coachable and on top of that has great athletic ability and skills, so she's a very good player that I'd expect big things out of, not only for the next year-and-a-half that I have Page G&B_GLOSSY_2013_HillGrp_finalQ6 8/13/13 2:57 PM her but for four years of college."j Warren Hill, ME '63 Jim Hill, MET '95, MBA '03 Jim Billard, LA '90 Brian Teyema, ME '87 Scott Dierking, IM '77 Russ Nelson, BCM '00 David Pikey, PH '97 Angela Billard, ED '90 Bill Silfies, MBA '03 Nick Muscolino, MET '06 Matthew Crawford, MET '05 Bob Hill, BCM '06 Ryan Stojkovich, BS '97 Mike Ivanovic, AS '81 Anthony Borgnini, ME '07 Anthony Camasta, MET '04 Beth Beigelbeck, SM '97 Deborah Toth, MET '07 Daniel Block, ME '08 Daniel Gasser, BS '04 Jason Jones, MET '08 Nick Johnson, BCM '09 Bryan O'Neill, BCM '09 Steven Sitkowski, BCM '10 Chris Summers, ME '10 Isaac Townsend, ME '10 Don Wunderlich, ME '13 Chris Gushurst, BCM '11 Taylor Spaulding, ME '12 Grant Fillipitch, MET '12 Jessica James, BS '13 Robert C Krier, MET '13 Joseph Ketcik, CE '13 Joseph Schraffenberger ME '13 Purdue Pride We're proud to be Illinois' largest HVAC contractor and to have 34 outstanding Purdue alumni on our HVAC/Plumbing team.
