PURDUE 2014 COMMITMENTS Kirk Barron* C 6-2 300 Mishawaka, Ind./Marian Jawhaun BentleyLB 6-2 245 Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha David Blough* QB 6-1 190 Carrollton, Texas/Creekview Thumbnail: A sawed-off, but fiery and emotional — and strong — interior lineman who'll play center at Purdue. He's not the physical prototype, but no one will play harder, and he's already developing into a team leader. Thumbnail: One of the late additions Purdue coveted most, Bentley's a physical inside linebacker who the Boilermaker coaches hope will help remedy one of their biggest needs and look pretty good alongside fellow marquee signee Gelen Robinson. Thumbnail: The Elite 11 quarterback never wavered in his Purdue commitment and signed his scholarship papers Dec. 16. He'll be on campus in January and competing in the spring with just two other scholarship quarterbacks. Tim Cason* CB 6-0 180 Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston Thumbnail: Purdue flipped the former Western Michigan commitment during the fall, grabbing a physical and versatile corner who got the ball rolling on a robust class of secondary recruits. Simmie Cobbs ATH 6-4 215 Oak Park, Ill./River Forest Thumbnail: A versatile athlete who projects initially at safety, Cobbs could play any number of roles at the next level. It was his ability to dunk a basketball that first really opened Purdue's eyes to his athleticism. Will Colmery DE 6-5 245 LaGrange, Ill./Nazareth Academy Trae Hart WR 5-11 160 Dallas/First Baptist Academy Cole Herdman TE 6-4 225 Oakton, Va./Flint Hill Juan Jenkins S 6-0 195 Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville Chris Jones CB 6-0 175 Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood Keiwan Jones DL 6-2 260 Dunnellon, Fla./Dunnellon Dexter Knox RB 5-9 200 Fairburn, Ga./Creekside Austin McGehee P 6-1 200 Pine Bluff, Ark./Pine Bluff Martesse Patterson OL 6-5 315 Gregory Phillips WR 5-11 180 Lithonia, Ga./Arabia Mountain Brandon Roberts CB 6-0 185 Valdosta, Ga./Lowndes Gelen Robinson LB 6-1 235 St. John, Ind./Lake Central LaDarius Wiley DB 6-3 185 Los Angeles/Cathedral Thumbnail: Colmery became a target after Purdue transitioned in-season to more odd-man fronts. He's projected to become that big tackle-like defensive end in such alignments. Thumbnail: Hart's small, but really fast and really elusive, as evidenced by the astronomical numbers he's put up in his high school career thus far. Look for him to be considered for kick return duties also. Thumbnail: The tight end in Purdue's class, Boilermaker coaches discovered Herdman late and decided his athleticism and versatility were worthy of a scholarship. Virginia Tech offered a greyshirt. Thumbnail: The true safety Purdue didn't have prior to his commitment, Jenkins, it's hoped, will give the Boilermakers a physical, hard-hitting presence in the back half of its defense. Thumbnail: Maybe the defensive back Purdue wanted most down the stretch, Purdue flipped the corner and South Florida commitment a week after he officially visited. Thumbnail: A high-motor player who was offered long ago by Purdue as a 4-3 tackle, but now a perceived fit as a 3-4 end. He's been a top D-line target since the spring. Thumbnail: A proverbial sleeper who enjoyed a breakout senior season, the small-but-powerful back was offered by Purdue this winter and accepted his first major conference offer. Thumbnail: The Arkansas kicker was recruited to punt for Purdue from Day 1 next season following Cody Webster's graduation. Columbus, Ohio/Marion Franklin Thumbnail: Recruited by some schools to play defensive tackle, Patterson comes to Purdue as an offensive lineman, likely a guard, at least to begin with. Illinois and Kentucky wanted him and Michigan State may have as well in time. Thumbnail: One of Purdue's earliest commitments, Phillips is fast and prides himself on sound route-running. He'll be an outside wide receiver. Thumbnail: Like Cason, Roberts is a bigger corner who could also play safety. Thumbnail: An uncommonly strong and explosive pass-rusher at the high school level who'll transition to playing between the tackles at Purdue, which needs physical presences at linebacker. Thumbnail: A big defensive back who can play any secondary position, Wiley was a late target Purdue was thrilled to get. * Already signed to enroll in January 50 IllustrateD volume 24, issue 3 f
