Back in those days, the national semifinals were played on Thursday and the championship on Saturday, something that didn't change to the current format until 1973. The Boilermakers made the most of their prep time, as they dismantled North Carolina by 27 points three days later. March 16, 1998 • Ranked No. 21, the Boilermakers used a strong sec- ond half to surge past Colorado State, 77-63, coached by former Purdue assistant Tom Collen. Ukari Figgs and Stephanie White scored 20 points each as the Boilermakers battled from a four-point halftime deficit on their home court. Purdue advanced to the Elite Eight under first-year coach Carolyn Peck. March 17, 2007 • First-year coach Sharon Versyp won her first NCAA Tournament game, a 63-42 victory over Oral Roberts. Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton (16), Katie Gearlds (11) and FahKara Malone (10) each scored in double figures as the 12th-ranked Boilermakers ended Oral Roberts' season for the second time in nine years in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. "(Confidence) is high. You would think it would be low just with everything we've been through, but this team … we handle adversity really well."
