GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 25 • 22 BY GOLD AND BLACK STAFF SIGNEES' CAREERS END Boilermaker recruits Ryan Cline and Grant Weatherford saw their high school careers end in the regionals round of the Indiana state tournament last weekend. Cline scored 21 points at Marion High School in a Class 4A regional championship, but Fort Wayne Home- stead scored the final 10 points of the game to beat Carmel 41-37, ending the Greyhound shooting guard's career. Elite big man Caleb Swanigan, a McDonald's All-American and Purdue's top recruiting priority for the 2015 class, scored 18 points and grabbed 11 re- bounds. "I feel I have the better team," Swani- gan said afterward, "and I feel like I can lead my team better. And that's really what it came down to: Who can get their team involved? Because he scored and I scored, but I feel like at the end of the game I was able to create for my team- mates and that's what got us the win." Carmel was held scoreless in the game's final five-and-a-half minutes. "We've been tested all year, played in one of the best conferences in the state," Cline said. "I really felt like what they threw at us was nothing we hadn't seen before. We just couldn't knock (shots) down when it mattered." Swanigan and Homestead now move on to semi-state, where they'll meet South Bend Riley at Huntington North this weekend. At Blackford, Weatherford's Ham- ilton Heights team fell 58-53 in the Class 3A morning game to Fort Wayne Dwenger. Weatherford scored 12 points with five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals. FOOTBALL VISITORS Purdue hosted a trio of high-profile unofficial visitors during the first week of spring practice. R Carmel linebacker Noah Burks: Already holding seven offers, Burks vis- ited Purdue for at least the second time, without yet having been offered. "The main thing was that they just wanted to get me there, get me to a practice, to see how it goes," Burks said. "It just being their first spring practice, it was probably a little lighter than a normal practice would be, but the main intention was to get me up there and meet the coaches. I'd been up there for a game but didn't really get to talk to anyone when I was, so it was good to meet everyone, see the facilities and get to watch practice." Purdue told Burks that "if a (line - backer) spot opens up, I'd probably be Recruiting Roundup P R E S E N T S R E C R U I T I N G N E W S A N D N OT E S 1600 South Creasy Lane Lafayette, IN 47905 1-866-906-6223 www.BobRohrmanSubaru.com Bob Rohrman Subaru Buy a Subaru and Keep Indiana Driving.
