GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 25 • 24 BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com A lthough she's not played in a game at Purdue, Haley Bodnar has decided to transfer from the program. Coach Sharon Versyp granted the freshman's request for a release on Thursday, allowing the Saint George, Utah, native to continue her career elsewhere. Bodnar was sidelined last season due to a foot injury, preventing her from begin- ning her career. "We all hope Haley is able to heal up and wish her the best of luck in her future, academically and athletically," Versyp said in a release. "We appreciate her being around the team this year and wish we'd have had the chance to see her in the Old Gold and Black." Bodnar, a 6-foot-3 forward, averaged 14 points per game as a senior, being named Utah's Player- of-the-Year. But she was hurt before the start of this season, a stress frac - ture in her foot, and didn't recover enough to begin playing. "I'm grateful for the support I've received from the fans and friends of Purdue women's basketball," Bod- nar said in a release. "I appreciate all of the support from Coach Versyp during my injury, and I will always remember my experiences at Purdue." INJURY UPDATES Several Boil- ermakers ended the season nurs- ing injuries. S Fresh- man Andreona Keys will have minor surgery to clean up her previously re- paired knee. The surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. S Torrie Thornton, who missed the last month of the sea- son, is out for the next 3-4 months after having surgery to repair a bro- ken foot. S Incoming freshman Lamina Cooper will have surgery on her torn ACL at the end of this month. Cooper, a senior at Lawrence North, injured the knee during re- gional play of the IHSAA state tour- nament. The guard is expected to miss Purdue's trip to Italy in August, but should be ready play for her freshman season in West Lafayette. S Junior April Wilson suffered broken ribs against Maryland on Jan. 8, an injury that was undis- closed until the end of the season. The point guard continued playing, then suffered a concussion against Northwestern on Feb. 11 and missed the next two games. Wilson will get an X- ray on her ribs but is ex- pected to need only rest to recover. S The same can be said for sophomore wing Bridget Perry, who was dealing with hamstring and Achilles tightness at the end of the season. She had previously missed nine games due to a high ankle sprain. Tom Campbell Forward Haley Bodnar (next to Pete) will transfer from Purdue after sit- ting out last season with a foot injury.
