Keiwan Jones 50 6-2, 267, So. Purdue rolled through nickel backs during the spring, putting Antonio Blackmon there — the walk-on ended the spring game as the No. 1 — and Mike Little, Myles Norwood, Kamal Hardy and on and on. But none looked anywhere near able to lock down the spot, one that's critical in the Boilermakers' new DB-heavy defense. Maybe the answer is Brandon Roberts (below), the athletic safety — and probably fastest Boilermaker — who practiced as a cornerback during his redshirt season in 2014. He might be the best bet to move to nickel, which would help to solidify that position but weakens safety. 63 GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED Running Back 1. It'd be shocking if he was anything but for the opener, when Purdue hosts Eastern Kentucky at noon on Sept. 3. Blough deserves the opportunity, having shown a grasp of Terry Malone's offense, taking advantage of the simplistic approach to be able to make big plays with his arm and legs. Elijah Sindelar's no slouch, however, and that's good; it'll certainly keep Blough on his toes, not that he wouldn't be already. Defense Cornerback 1. Da'Wan Hunte 2 5-9, 188, Jr. 18 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 2 sacks, 1 FF* 2. Myles Norwood 6 6-0, 174, Jr. Nickel Back 1. Brandon Roberts 1 5-11, 198, So. 36 tackles, 1 sack, 1 int.* 2. Antonio Blackmon 25 6-0, 191, So. Tom Campbell
