How would you describe your sound? Post-emotional funk indsturial sex machine… with a hint of techno. Yeah just basically anything to get the chicks going…. (Contemplates) What kind of chicks would like that, I've got fucking issues haven't I? (Laughs) What's your musical background and ? I never learnt an instrument as a kid, when I first came into electronic music when you don't know the basic, a lot of groundwork to put in. But I think it influenced me hugely, cos it made me focus more on sound design. The texture, aggression of my sound… I mean I often skip chords and melody but I think that has shaped my sound in a huge way. What's the craic with your releases this year and what's next? I was fortunate enough to get picked up by two of my favourite labels this year. The first was MORD, which was amazing for me, Bas (label owner) has been great. I've also just dropped an EP on Perc Trax… the response has been amazing. Releasing on Perc also allowed me to go that extra bit harder. Nice so where's the best place you've laid it down this year? I've done some amazing gigs this year - I played at Berghain, Tresor… Factory 10 in Rotterdam was fucked up. My live set's been coming on, been learning so much as I've been on tour. You're renowned for going hard, as I've seen first hand. What's your usual plan of attack with cracking on if you've got a gig? When i first started out playing, i was really excited and got a bit carried away with a few too many drinks… and other substances. But that hasn't changed, I just changed the timing of it (Laughs)... you can get fucked afterwards or while you're doing it. What's happened to your gear recently? Yeah I recently had a flood in my house. I found out in Budapest… on a stag do of sorts. Getting on it. In a titty bar, because of the stag do I couldn't pick up my phone when my girlfriend tried ringing me. But then the she started calling everyone else so I knew something must have been fucked. And yeah that was it. Boom you lost all your shit, your house is underwater. That's actually just given me an excuse to go out and buy more gear. So it's a never ending cycle of getting on the gear. It's fucked up. I lie to myself, that's it, your done. Then next minute you've spunked your money on a spring noise machine. (Laughs) 7 29 Issue 82 / 2015 HOUSE/ tEcHnO guestlist.net "Let's fucking crack on!" This sentence pretty much sums up Kieran Whitefield aka Ansome in a nutshell. Whatever puts his mind to, whether it be turning up, trial biking or now techno - the man goes in on any platform put in front of him. We hung out in the Cornishman-turned Londoner's home studio to witness where the magic happens and chatted shit about his gear, and gear. " It's never ending cycle on the gear. It's fucked up. I say I'm done then I've spunked my money on a spring noise machine "
