I mean, the story of this football season really isn't about the individual players. Sure, seniors Ricardo Allen and Bruce Gaston have some marquee value on recognized preseason All-Big Ten teams. But after that, the 2013 version of Purdue football team is chock full of noname players, at least in the eyes of the regional and national "experts." After all, those regional and national guys are picking Purdue at, or near, the bottom of the Leaders Division. But maybe that is the beauty of what we will see in 2013. The story is just how well the foundation is laid by Coach Darrell Hazell's attention to substance and style. It just may not be properly measured in the wins and losses. The picture you see here of seniors Trevor Foy (right) and Gabe Holmes with Hazell is indicative of where things are. After all, the injury-riddled Foy may play a role on this team, and Holmes, as you will read in the feature on Page 20, needs to finally tap his potential in his last-chance season. But the story is that these two, and everyone on this roster for that matter, will be called at the beginning of fall camp on Aug. 2 to not only read the "A Player's Manual" but to live it. To Hazell, that is what his 533-page manifesto is all about. It's not about Xs and Os, it's about getting it done, and getting it done in the framework of team in an environment of respect, gratitude, effort and desire. So how will success be measured this season? If you read our opponent previews starting on Page 60, you will see that our early line has Purdue a favorite in four games.
