GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 1 • 2 Purdue has a 12-game losing streak against FBS opponents, its only victory of last season coming against FCS Indiana State and its season- finale loss to Oklahoma State in the Heart of Dal- las Bowl tacked on from the previous season. The Broncos also won only once in 2013, but second-year coach P.J. Fleck has infused the program with energy, promise and talent, nab- bing the Mid-American Conference's highest- ever ranked recruiting class. Despite the potential shaky Week 1 oppo- nent, the Boilermakers probably won't be given much leeway with fans. A fast start is expected against WMU, and an exciting one could help them return to Ross-Ade Stadium. "I think it's huge that we come out on Sat- urday and play extremely well because once we do, it'll be fun," he said. "I think the fans are going to fall in love with this football team … because of the way they're going to play and the talent level has risen, and we're going to play with more passion and they will be more physical, which is what you expect. They're real- ly going to enjoy watching us play this year." j A Close Opener? Here is how Purdue has fared in its last 20 season openers, dating back to the 1994 season. Overall Wins 17 - Losses 3 vs. MAC Wins 5 - Losses 1 Average victory margin Non-MAC opponents 14.4 pts MAC opponents 24.3 pts
