GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 1 • 24 Even though none of the play- ers had been captain before, they'd shown some significant qualities even before getting the label. Sinz was a quarterback in high school and as a coach's kid, has evolved into one of the most well-versed players on the offense about its system; Robinson came to Purdue as a quarterback before being shifted to linebacker and that transformation has helped him showcase a lead-by-work-eth- ic approach; Kugler is the "quarter- back of the offensive line" at center and is one of the team's smartest players; and Russell has been a multi-year starter. Still, all four players are aware of the added responsibility that comes along with being called a captain. "In essence, if you're a captain of a team, your name is always tied to this team," Sinz said. "The wins, losses, the way we reflect on and off the field, that's all the responsibility of the captains and the leaders on this team. Cer - tainly with the title of captain, it creates a greater responsibility to make great decisions not only on the field but also off the field and then also e n co u ra gi n g teammates to do the same. We've come so far in this whole process with the change and everything like that, we don't want to slow down now. This is the start of, we believe, something special, and we're ex - cited to get going, and I'm excited I can help lead this team." SLOW TO RECOVER Projected starting nose tackle HAZELL ON THE RADIO Fans have two pub- lic opportunities to get Coach Darrell Hazell's thoughts prior to Purdue games in 2014. "The Darrell Hazell Show" will continue to originate from Buffalo Wild Wings on Brown Street in West Lafayette. Hazell also will speak at the Downtown Gridiron Club luncheons on Wednesdays during the season. The first luncheon is Sept. 10, the week leading into the Notre Dame game. Doors open at 11 a.m., and Hazell speaks, reviews film of the previous week, pre- views the upcoming opponent and takes questions. There still are spots open to attend the luncheon. Each ticket is $175, and that includes 11 luncheons and a reception. For more in- formation, e-mail Clint Brand at downtowngridironclub@gmail.com.
