GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 1 • 31 BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com F or the first time since the 2009- 10 season, Purdue will play 18 games in its Big Ten schedule. The league, with new mem- bers Maryland and Rutgers, un- veiled the 18-game slates for all 14 programs earlier this month. The Boilermakers will play a pair of games against Illinois, Min- nesota, Indiana, Ohio State and Rutgers, while playing the rest of their conference foes just once. Purdue hosts Wisconsin, Penn State, Northwestern and Michigan State, while playing road games at Maryland, Iowa, Nebraska and Michigan. The non-conference schedule had been released earlier in the summer. It includes an ACC/Big Ten matchup with Florida State; a game vs. Texas Tech in the Junk - anoo Jam in the Bahamas and a potential contest with North Caro- lina there, too. PURDUE NAMES THREE CAPTAINS As Purdue's starting point guard, April Wilson is expected to be a leader for the Boilermakers. This summer, she added a title to that trait, being named one of the Boilers' three captains. "It's pretty big," the junior said. "But it's expected this year because I'm the point guard and I'm that leader. I would be surprised if I didn't get it, and I'm happy that I did." Wilson joins forwards Liza Clemons and Whitney Bays in cap - tainship. The latter two are Pur- due's only two seniors this season. "I'm moving up," Bays said smil- ing. "I'm excited. It's an honor. My teammates voted for us. I'm glad that they respect us and think we can lead the team to good things this year." BODNAR OUT Freshman forward Haley Bod- nar will miss at least the non-con- ference season due to a stress frac- ture in her foot. The 6-foot-3 rookie under- went surgery in early August. Coach Sharon Versyp estimates that Bodnar would be out until De- cember, with her availability likely coming around the start of the Big Ten season. "We think she had (the injury previously), because it was sore the first week she was here," Versyp said. "But it could have happened over time." THIS AND THAT S Former Purdue coach Lin Dunn was inducted into the Wom- en's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville in June. Dunn, the Indiana Fever head coach who is retiring af- ter this season, led the Purdue women's basketball program from 1988 to 1996, piling up a school-record 206 victories. She has nearly 700 victories, collegiately and professionally, in her 43-year coaching career. S After graduating, Camille Redmon decided this summer to leave the basketball program. The center started 16 games last season, averaging four points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in about 14 minutes per game. Redmon has one year of eligi - bility remaining and will finish her career at Boise State. j Tom Campbell Junior point guard April Wilson is one of three captains this season, after a team vote over the summer. 2014-15 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Date Opponent Time Nov. 9 FINDLAY (exh.) 2 p.m. Nov. 14 at Ball State 7 p.m. Nov. 19 GREEN BAY 5:30 p.m. Nov. 23 TOLEDO 2 p.m. Junkanoo Jam, Freeport, Bahamas Nov. 28 Texas Tech 3:15 p.m. Nov. 29 George Washington/North Carolina 1/3:15 p.m. Big Ten/ACC Challenge Dec. 3 FLORIDA STATE TBA Dec. 7 at Dayton TBA Dec. 11 KANSAS 7 p.m. World Vision Classic Dec. 19 UC IRVINE Noon Dec. 20 DENVER 2:30 p.m. Dec. 21 WRIGHT STATE 2:30 p.m. Dec. 28 at Illinois TBA Jan. 1 MINNESOTA TBA Jan. 4 INDIANA TBA Jan. 8 at Maryland TBA Jan. 11 at Iowa TBA Jan. 15 WISCONSIN TBA Jan. 19 at Nebraska TBA Jan. 22 at Minnesota TBA Jan. 25 OHIO STATE TBA Jan. 29 RUTGERS TBA Feb. 2 at Indiana TBA Feb. 8 PENN STATE TBA Feb. 11 NORTHWESTERN TBA Feb. 14 at Rutgers TBA Feb. 17 at Ohio State TBA Feb. 21 ILLINOIS TBA Feb. 24 at Michigan TBA Feb. 28 MICHIGAN STATE TBA March 4-8 Big Ten Tournament* TBA * Sears Centre, Hoffman Estates, Ill.
