GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 1 • 23 learning for a young guy, really studies the game, but he's also that physical presence that can add to that linebacker corps." Bentley worked with the first- team defense at weakside line- backer on Tuesday and Wednes- day, even with a twist to the line- backing corps. Bentley essentially was bench- ing senior Joe Gilliam at the Will spot this week. But then starting middle linebacker Sean Robinson got an infection in his right knee late Monday night. That shifted Gil- liam to middle linebacker, the spot he started at last season, and play- ing alongside Bentley. "It's a game-like thing. If somebody gets hurt in a game, I have to go in and know what I'm doing so I can help my team- mates out," Gilliam said. "Nothing different. I just have to go out there and do my job for the rest of my teammates." If Robinson takes a quick turn for the better by game time Sat- urday, though, he could still play, Hazell said. "He's had enough reps for us, I'm confident he'll play well regard- less of whether he practices at all this week," Hazell said. "So if he's ready to go game time, he'll play." POSEY OUT Sophomore Cameron Posey is suspended for the game because of "violation of team policy," Hazell said Tuesday. It's a sour turn of events for Posey, who made a remarkable comeback from ACL surgery in less than six months to be on the field for the start of training camp. He had a good first three weeks of practice, too. Posey will miss only one week, Hazell said. Posey played the sec - ond-most snaps of all Purdue's re- ceivers last season. This year, at least, receiver is one of Purdue's deepest positions. B.J. Knauf, Danny Anthrop and DeAngelo Yancey likely will be the three starters if Purdue goes with a three-receiver set to begin the game, but some true freshmen could see their first playing time, too. Hazell mentioned freshmen Gregory Phillips, who backs up Yancey at the "X" spot, and Trae Hart as options to play Saturday as well. CAPTAINS NAMED Four first-time captains were se- lected by their Purdue teammates. Hazell changed his previous approach in 2014, allowing juniors to be elected as team captains as well as seniors, and it landed Rob- ert Kugler in the prominent role, as well as seniors Ryan Russell, Sean Robinson and Justin Sinz. "I think we did an excellent job," Russell said of the group picked. "Actually everyone that got voted except myself was on my ballot. These are the guys I wanted to be captains." Purdue has some depth at the receiver position, at least, to cover his absence for the first week.
