Cornerback
1. Anthony Brown 9
5-11, 192, Jr.
1 tackle*
Brown didn't get too much
work, as the Western Michigan
passing game wasn't very con-
sistent, especially early in the
game. Purdue likes Brown's physicality, along
with his speed, as a cornerback. It's a better fit
than safety, where he played last season.
2. Da'Wan Hunte 2
5-9, 175, R-Fr.
Strong Safety
1. Frankie Williams 24
5-9, 189, Jr.
7 tackles, 1 int., 2 PBU*
Williams had his best day
as a Boilermaker, one of the
best individual performances
in recent memory. Against
Western Michigan, he had seven tackles, a
couple breakups and a pick that he nearly
returned for a score. And twice, he had
punt returns of more than 25 yards the first
Boilermaker to that in 12 years.
2. Robert Gregory 7
6-2, 216, So.
Free Safety
1. Landon Feichter 44
6-0, 192, Sr. (5)
8 tackles*
Feichter was forced to stew in
Purdue's locker room for the
nearly two-hour first half, wait-
ing on his chance to play. He
was there due to his targeting penalty against
IU last season. But once available, he shot
out onto the field, finishing with a team-high
eight tackles, despite playing only 30 minutes.
2. Austin Logan 5
6-0, 200, So.
Cornerback
1. Antoine Lewis 23
5-10, 185, Sr. (5)
3 tackles, 1 PBU*
Lewis played every snap for the
Boilermakers (as did Brown and
Williams), finishing with a trio
of tackles and a breakup. It'll
be interesting to see what Purdue does next
week, when safety Taylor Richards returns
from suspension. Clark was the nickel and
played four snaps.
2. Leroy Clark 3
5-10, 187, So.
Rush
1. Jalani Phillips 89
6-4, 265, Sr.
5 tackles*
Phillips had a fairly active day,
with five tackles, but didn't cre-
ate the kind of pressure Purdue
wants out of its rush end posi-
tion. On Western Michigan's
first drive, Phillips darted around the left edge
and flushed Zach Terrell, forcing an incomple-
tion. Look for more of Robinson, who played
only on special teams, in Week 1.
2. Gelen Robinson 13
6-1, 239, Fr.
Strongside Linebacker
1. Joe Gilliam 39
6-1, 230, Sr. (5)
3 tackles, 1 PBU*
Purdue's already been forced
into a shuffle in its linebacker
corps, due to Jimmy Herman's
broken thumb on his right
hand. Gilliam, who played all
three linebacker spots on Saturday, will start
on the strong side. But Garcia could play too,
after he got in late vs. WMU. But whoever the
personnel, he needs to perform better than
Week 1.
2. Andy James Garcia 42
6-0, 217, So.
Middle Linebacker
1. Sean Robinson
6-3, 239, Sr. (5)
3 tackles*
Robinson still was limited
in practice this week, as he
receives treatment (in the form
of antibiotics) for a knee infec-
tion. But regardless of the reps
in practice, he'll play on Saturday. He did it a
week ago, when the infection was far worse,
and had three tackles vs. the Broncos.
2. Garrett Hudson 16
6-3, 230, R-Fr.
Weakside Linebacker
1. Ja'Whaun Bentley
35
6-2, 250, Fr.
5 tackles, 1 PBU*
Bentley became Purdue's first
rookie to start his first career
game since Ricardo Allen in
2010, and the first linebacker to do so since
Gilbert Gardner in 2000. And he fared well,
with five tackles and a pass breakup, which
came on perfect coverage of a screen. Bentley
had faults, though, hitting the wrong gap on
WMU's long TD run.
2. Danny Ezechukwu 36
6-2, 246, R-Fr.
End
1. Ryan Russell 99
6-5, 273, Sr.
4 tackles*
Against WMU, Russell didn't provide the pass
rush that had been expected of him after a
solid offseason in which he regularly showed
that kind of consistency. He's being counted on
to do so. Russell was called for three penalties, although one
of them was declined. Panfil unofficially played 17 snaps, but
didn't have a tackle.
2. Evan Panfil 95
6-4, 251, So.
Nose Tackle
1. Ra'Zahn Howard 14
6-3, 323, So.
None*
Coming back from a hip/groin injury that kept
him out of much of training camp, Howard
didn't look as active as many had expected. But
he started and more than half the snaps. The
rest went to Watson, who recorded Purdue's lone tackle for
loss, a sack in the third quarter.
2. Ryan Watson 92
6-2, 291, Jr.
Tackle
1. Jake Replogle 54
6-5, 269, So.
3 tackles*
Replogle and the rest of the starters on the
defensive line struggled to stop the Broncos'
rushing attack, which accumulated more than
200 yards. Back-to-back drives in the second
half, the starters were yanked in favor of the second unit.
Rouse played about a dozen snaps.
2. Michael Rouse III 97
6-4, 314, Jr.
