Wide Receiver
1. Cameron Posey 18
6-1, 182, So.
None*
Posey was suspended for
Game 1. Now that he's
returned, he gives the
Boilermakers a reliable inside
receiver, one that Etling seemed to have a
good connection with at the end of last sea-
son. Anthrop was a starter last week, and will
likely play starter-like snaps.
2. Danny Anthrop 33
6-0, 191, Jr.
Quarterback
1. Danny Etling 5
6-2, 218, So.
19-of-38 for 181 yards,
2 TDs / 0 int.*
Etling accounted for three
touchdowns and didn't turn
the ball over, significant
positives in his first start of the season. But
his accuracy, particularly to the sideline and
down the field, was a bit off, not helped by the
receivers' inability to get open. The passing
game will need to be better.
2. Austin Appleby 12
6-5, 229, So.
Running Back
1. Raheem Mostert 8
5-11, 190, Sr.
22 rushes, 146 yards, 1 TD*
1 rec., minus-1 yard*
Mostert and Hunt had an
excellent 2014 debut, combin-
ing for more than 200 yards
rushing and a couple of touchdowns. And
their big-play potential was on display, as the
duo had three rushes for more than 30 yards.
The numbers of touches (23 for Mostert; 17 for
Hunt) seemed ideal, as well.
2. Akeem Hunt 1
5-9, 183, Sr.
Center
1. Robert Kugler 57
6-3, 298, Jr.
Kugler, a captain, appeared
to have a good handle
on the protections for the
Boilermakers, as Etling largely
stayed upright. Before the
game, it was thought that Barron might get
some snaps, but Purdue played only the start-
ers.
2. Kirk Barron 53
6-3, 305, Fr.
Right Guard
1. Jordan Roos 70
6-4, 312, So.
On one of Raheem Mostert's
long rushes, Roos had an
excellent block, pulling from
right to left to clear out a rush-
ing lane. It was one of several
good blocks by the line that
helped the Boilermakers to 226 yards rushing.
If Purdue needs to use a third guard, it'll likely
be Clements.
2. Corey Clements 71
6-8, 400, Jr.
Right Tackle
1. J.J. Prince 73
6-6, 302, So.
Prince, like Cermin on the left
side, got his first career start. It
went better than his appren-
ticeship a year ago, when he
struggled in his few snaps.
Purdue didn't have any penalties along its line,
a good start for a rebuilt group.
2. Joey Warburg 77
6-5, 289, So.
Wide Receiver
1. B.J. Knauf 83
5-10, 187, So.
4 rec., 52 yards
Knauf had four catches, none
bigger than his third-down
grab in the fourth quarter,
when Purdue was trying to
milk the clock – and score – while leading by
three. Knauf had a drop and a false start, too,
so he'll need to clean up the mistakes. Anthrop
will play inside and out.
2. Danny Anthrop 33
6-0, 191, Jr.
Wide Receiver
1. DeAngelo Yancey 7
6-2, 218, So.
None*
Yancey had a rough day
against the Broncos, being tar-
geted six times but failing to
record a catch. Some of those
Danny Etling throws weren't
on target, but on others Yancey failed to
separate from defenders. Phillips looked good
in limited action, hauling in the longest recep-
tion of the day down the left sideline.
2. Gregory Phillips 13
6-0, 190, Fr.
Tight end
1. Gabe Holmes 86
6-5, 258, Sr.
2 rec., 15 yards, 1 TD*
Holmes and Sinz are a great
1-2 punch at tight end, each
capable catchers and blockers.
Sinz is reliable in the receiving
game, seemingly always to in
the right spot at the right time; he had seven
catches. And Holmes had two, plus appeared
to block well to help spring Purdue's rushing
game.
2. Justin Sinz 84
6-4, 249, Sr. (5)
Left Tackle
1. Cameron Cermin 66
6-5, 303, So.
Purdue didn't allow any sacks,
which considering where the
offensive line was in the spring
(without solidified tackles), is
an accomplishment. Cermin
had an excellent block on one
of Raheem Mostert's long rushes.
2. Jack DeBoef 54
6-7, 290, Sr. (5)
Left Guard
1. Jason King 72
6-3, 309, So.
Purdue didn't only find big
plays in the running game, but
the Boilermakers got the short
ones, too. And part of the
reason is King. That's a good
sign for the future, although
the defenses start to get better in the middle,
beginning with Central Michigan this week.
