season opener, defeating Rice 48-
17 in South Bend. Quarterback
Everett Golson returned from his
suspension to account for five
touchdowns, three of which were
on the ground. The Irish accumu-
lated 281 yards rushing, led by
Greg Bryant and Tarean Folston,
who ran for 71 yards apiece.
The No. 16 Irish are set to face
Michigan this week under the
lights at Notre Dame Stadium. It
is the last scheduled matchup be-
tween the two rivals, due in part
to Notre Dame's commitment to
play five ACC schools each year.
There is no new news on the
Irish's five suspended players, as
Coach Brian Kelly is still waiting on
more information from the inves-
tigation before he decides if the
suspensions will be lifted.
After Michigan, the Irish will
then take on Purdue in Indianapo-
lis before having to play six ranked
teams over their next nine games.
Sept. 20: Southern Illinois
The Salukis shut out Taylor in
their season opener, 45-0, behind
the legs of Malcolm Agnew. The se-
nior running back, a transfer from
Oregon State, rushed for 145 yards
and caught a 62-yard scoring pass
despite playing just a half. The win
bumped Southern Illinois into the
FCS rankings (No. 25) for the first
time since 2011.
The Salukis head into this
week's matchup with ranked East-
ern Illinois trying to start the sea-
son 2-0 for the first time since 2007.
Sept. 27: Iowa
The Hawkeyes struggled to
beat Northern Iowa 31-23 in a
game in which Iowa was only up
one halfway through the fourth
quarter.
Junior quarterback Jake Ru-
dock threw for 250 yards and two
scores. Running back Mark Weis-
man, who almost eclipsed 1,000
yards on the ground in 2013, only
managed to gain 34 yards on 10
carries against the Panthers.
This week, Iowa entertains
Ball State. In two previous meet-
ings, Iowa has outscored Ball State
101-0, winning 56-0 and 45-0.
