GoldanDBlack express • volume 25, express 2 • 23 No.1 Purdue running back Raheem Mostert: Mostert had started games before but never as Purdue's featured back. In his first legit start, he was great. Not only did he break a pair of 34-yard runs, but he also showed he could grind and get tough yards en route to a 146-yard day. His 11-yard touchdown run was one of his most impressive, using strength to fight through a tackle and still extend the ball over the goal-line with a defender latched on. No.2 Purdue safety Frankie Wil- liams: Looks like safety is just fine for Williams. In potentially a short-term role filling in for Taylor Richards, Williams was active on defense with an interception, seven tackles and two pass breakups. But it was his two punt returns of 20-plus yards that also drastically changed field position and led to two scores. No.3 Western Michigan running back Jarvion Franklin: The freshman busted through Purdue's de- fense, breaking tackles and simply out- running people, for a game-high 163 yards and three touchdowns. His 61-yard score was easy: There was a gaping hole inside right tackle. No.4 Purdue tight end Justin Sinz: Though he may not technically be the No. 1 tight end — Gabe Holmes gets that label — Sinz still could be Purdue's best offen- sive player. After leading the team in re- ceptions last season, Sinz caught a game- high seven for 65 yards and a touchdown against WMU. No.5 Purdue safety Landon Feichter: Despite not playing the first half because of a suspension, Feichter led the Boilermakers in tackles with eight. It also was more rushing yards than Mostert had in his previous two complete seasons.
