GoldanDBlack express • volume 25, express 3 • 18 Wide Receiver 1. Cameron Posey 18 6-1, 182, So. 2 rec., 22 yards* Purdue needs to find Posey more often. In his first game – he was suspended for Week 1 – he and the quarterbacks never seemed to get in sync. Considering he's one of the Boilermakers' most reliable catch- ers, he's needed to keep the chains moving. 2. Danny Anthrop 33 6-0, 191, Jr. Quarterback 1. Danny Etling 5 6-2, 218, So. 36-of-70 for 307 yards, 2 TDs / 2 int.* 11 rushes, 57 yards, 2 TDs* As of Thursday afternoon, Coach Darrell Hazell hadn't named a starter between Etling and Appleby, but that Etling took the first-team snaps dur- ing Wednesday's practice might be an indic- tion which way Purdue is leaning. If so, Etling needs to be more accurate if Purdue is to have a chance. 2. Austin Appleby 12 6-5, 229, So. Running Back 1. Raheem Mostert 8 5-11, 190, Sr. 41 rushes, 199 yards, 1 TD* 6 rec., 30 yards* Mostert wasn't very effective against CMU, a team that has designed its defense to stop the run. He'll be challenged again against an athletic Notre Dame front. Purdue plans to get the ball to Hunt more often, after he had only three carries last Saturday. 2. Akeem Hunt 1 5-9, 183, Sr. Center 1. Robert Kugler 57 6-3, 298, Jr. Kugler has been good at get- ting through congestion at the line and into the second level of linebackers, doing so a few times to help spring bigger gains. If there's anything he can do to help calm the rest of the sputtering offense, he's likely trying. 2. Kirk Barron 53 6-3, 305, Fr. Right Guard 1. Jordan Roos 70 6-4, 312, So. Coach Darrell Hazell called Roos one of the surprises early in the season, saying the sophomore is doing well, particularly in cleaning up the pocket to buy the quarterback more time. Clements thus far has played only on the field goal team. 2. Corey Clements 71 6-8, 400, Jr. Right Tackle 1. J.J. Prince 73 6-6, 302, So. Prince has problems against the Chippewas. First, he missed a block on a fourth- down conversion attempt, leading to its failure. Then he struggled in pass protection late in the game, when Austin Appleby was trying to get the passing game going. 2. Joey Warburg 77 6-5, 289, So. Wide Receiver 1. B.J. Knauf 83 5-10, 187, So. 7 rec., 71 yards Knauf re-injured his groin dur- ing practice on Tuesday, put- ting him on the sideline, and he didn't practice Wednesday. If he's healthy, however, he'll go on Saturday. Anthrop has been OK, but Purdue could have used him hauling in that long pass vs. the Chippewas. 2. Danny Anthrop 33 6-0, 191, Jr. Wide Receiver 1. DeAngelo Yancey 7 6-2, 218, So. 1 rec., 9 yards* Time might be running out on Yancey holding his start- ing job. Frequently, this week, Phillips, who has looked impressive during his backup snaps, has been getting opportunities with the first team. Whoever can more consistently get off press coverage will play the majority of Purdue's snaps. 2. Gregory Phillips 13 6-0, 190, Fr. Tight End 1. Gabe Holmes 86 6-5, 258, Sr. 4 rec., 30 yards, 1 TD* Purdue's been fine at tight end, with the trio of Holmes, Sinz and Dolapo Macarthy combin- ing for 17 catches, without an obvious drop, and two of Purdue's three touchdowns. If anything, the Boilermakers need to find ways to get them involved more, especially down the field. 2. Justin Sinz 84 6-4, 249, Sr. (5) Left Tackle 1. Cameron Cermin 66 6-5, 303, So. Cermin has one more game at left tackle before his com- petition there increases. David Hedelin comes off NCAA sus- pension and is eligible for the Boilermakers. Even if he loses the No. 1 spot at left tackle, Cermin's likely to play, perhaps rotating in at both tackle spots and maybe even guard. 2. Jason Tretter 76 6-6, 306, R-Fr. Left Guard 1. Jason King 72 6-3, 309, So. King has been steady for the Boilermakers. Particularly in short-yardage situations, it's hard to find fault in what Purdue has been able to do blocking up front for the run- ning game. 2. Jack DeBoef 54 6-7, 290, Sr. (5) Special TeamS OFFenSe VS Notre Dame Defense DL 91 Sheldon Day 6-2, 285, Jr. 53 Justin Utupo 6-1, 290, Gr.
