Knauf re- aggravated the latter during Tues- day's practice during a positional drill and did not practice Wednes- day. Michael Rouse, the team's backup defensive tackle, didn't practice Tuesday with an appar- ent illness but was back Wednes- day getting some work. Rouse was used sparingly the first two games, but if he is unable to play, it's likely Ryan Watson will play both defensive tackle and nose tackle on Saturday, which he did some last week. Father-son on sidelines For the second time in his Purdue career, strength and con- ditioning coordinator Duane Car- lisle will be on the opposite side- lines of son Amir on Saturday. Amir is a receiver for the Irish. "It's cool to compete against my father, but at the end of the day, it's just another game, and I approach it in a professional manner and really prepare," Amir Carlisle said this week. Amir Carlisle said he and his dad talk every week, and that didn't change this week leading into the rivalry game. "The father-son connection comes before any football activ - ity," Amir Carlisle said. Duane Carlisle declined an interview request. hazell joins board Hazell has joined the Honor- ary Board of Directors for Lau- ren's First and Goal Foundation, a charity that has raised $1.7 million since 2004 for pe- diatric brain tumor research and cancer services. Hazell coached with founder John Loose while at Army, where he met John's daughter, Lauren. Lauren has had brain cancer since she was 1 and has been fight- ing it the last dozen years or so. "She's one of my people that gives me inspiration every day," said Hazell, who has a picture of him with Lauren in his office. Hazell visited the LFG camp in Ohio this year and spoke with campers. long-time purdue supporter dies Bill Lamb died at the age of 91 on Sept. 6. Lamb was a friend of Boiler- maker athletics, serving in pur- chasing for 35 years during the days of Red Mackey and George King. He was also a spotter on the Purdue football radio net- work for 25 years and told the best road trip stories (not all G- rated). Cmu notes R Etling's first- quarter interception was the third pick- six of his young ca- reer. Since 1996, Purdue has won just four of 26 games when it threw a pick six. Etling joins good company of Boiler- maker quarterbacks who have had three passes returned for scores by an opponent in a ca- reer, including Drew Brees (sev- en), Mark Herrmann (five) and Kyle Orton (three). R Purdue's 17-play, 77-yard scoring drive in the second quar- ter was the longest in terms of plays since 2011. The last 17-play scoring drive was in a 33-25 win at Indiana. R The Boilermakers' 21-point deficit was the third-largest ever against a MAC school. In 2013, Purdue trailed North- ern Illinois by 38 points before dropping a 31-point decision. In the 1997 season opener at Toledo, the Boilermakers trailed by 22 before losing by 14.
