VOLUME 25, ISSUE 6 7 Coach Darrell Hazell wanted to have a visual to show everyone how his program is behind all the efforts of the Purdue Center for Cancer Research. So, prior to the spring game he had the Gold and Black teams enter the field from the opposite locker rooms and join arm-in-arm with cancer survivors. The line spanned the width of the south end zones, several rows deep. Here, David Yancey (28) escorts a determined looking Sharon Morphew (sunglasses) and Linda Porick on to the field. The Purdue Challenge 5K Run/Walk was held earlier that morning enjoying a record day in fundraising and participation. In the eight years of The Purdue Challenge, it has raised over $500,000 for cancer research done on campus and has had nearly 12,000 participants. Just north of the main area is a mural titled "Super Bowl Champions Born Here." On the left are rings of the champions. Purdue has had at least one player on a championship team 13 of the last 16 years. The mural to the right shows seven of Purdue's greatest Super Bowl champions. Purdue's Hall of Glory, located inside the Mollenkopf Athletic Center, underwent a major upgrade for the first time since 2010. Coach Darrell Hazell's goal was a makeover that resulted in an up-to-date look and feel, providing a snapshot of the program's past and present. In addition to highlighting the 2015 uniforms and the helmets with the schedule, it pays tribute to four special groups of Boilermakers through the years: College Football Hall of Famers, Super Bowl champions, the Cradle of Quarterbacks and the Den of Defensive Ends. Eight replica trophies from Purdue's Big Ten Championships will be on display soon, joining bowl trophies and national award winners.
